Part 2

“IMBECILES!” roared King Harald III. “You’re less useful than the lice nagging at the bottom of your skulls! How could you let them take my daughters?!” The King sat down on the throne with a hard thud. His eyes were wild, his face red and his grey curls looked something like a bird’s nest.
“I’m sorry, his Majesty,” said prince Dorian and went down on one knee on the red carpet that stretched about thirty meters from the wide opened ports to the foot of the throne.
“We’ll get them back, his Majesty.” Prince Royce followed Dorian’s example and took a deep bow.
“I hereby ban you both from the Kingdom of Westeria for life. Move out of my sight!” spat King Harald.
Dorian frowned and tried to think of a reply with a stupid look on his face. This wasn’t fair, we got ambushed and were outnumbered. There was no chance of defeating them, he thought. Prince Dorian decided to fight his urge to protest, tasted the bitterness of his faith and kept silent. The princes hastily rose to their feet, nodded, and hurried away before the guards had any chance to escort them out.
“Commander Schultz,” continued the King and turned to the silver haired, tall, armored man who took a step forward when called upon. “Find my daughters.”
“Yes, his Majesty,” commander Schultz took a bow.

Prince Dorian’s golden locks flowed slowly in the breeze. He stood at the afterdeck of the almost brand new forty meter long ship, Aurora, next to a beautiful young woman with long wavy hair of the same color as his.
“Good job, brother,” Helene said sarcastically.
“We will not return home until we find the princesses. We will not return empty-handed,” said prince Dorian as he straightened his back.
“Save your pride. Our family needs us at home. Father is getting weaker by the day.”
“If you worry about father’s health the message of the disgrace I’ve brought upon our family’s name surely will be the death of him.”
“Pride and honor will be the death of you. And when did you become so stiff, brother?” Helene sighed and walked down on deck to talk to one of the skippers.
“You got a visitor, he asks to meet you, my Lord,” said a scrawny messenger boy as he lightly tapped prince Dorian on the shoulder which made the prince turn around so hastily that he almost knocked down the boy.
“Tell me, who’s this visitor?” Prince Dorian combed his fingers through his hair to put the locks back in place.
“Prince Royce, my Lord,” said the boy in a small bow.
“See him here, boy,” said Dorian, cleared his throat and sent the boy away.
Shortly after, the dark haired prince Royce walked up to Dorian at the stern.
“Dorian,” prince Royce began. “I don’t have a ship or anything of value for that matter. I came here to make my family proud and my intentions are still the same. Please, let me sail with you, let me help you find the princesses,” said Royce without leaving Dorian any chance to speak.
Prince Dorian didn’t reply immediately. He had expected this coming when the messenger boy told him that prince Royce wanted to meet, but he wasn’t sure of the answer. It would look bad if I denied Royce’s request and maybe it would be nice with a companion. After all, he seemed to be very pleasant. However, I don’t need an extra pair of hands and this would result in a shared achievement if we successfully rescued the princesses, prince Dorian thought.
After some consideration Dorian replied, “Alright you’re in,” and the princes shook hands in agreement.

Captain Olfonse paced back and forth in the aftercabin.
“I’m getting old, Serena,” he confessed after well over a hundred turns.
“You’re quitting?” Serena sat on one of the chairs with her feet casually resting on the small table.
“No, no,” Captain Olfonse reassured. “But I have to think about the future of this crew.”
“You have Angel, she’s old enough to step up if that’s the case.” Serena put both feet on the floor but remained seated.
“Angel is a smart and a talented girl, no doubt. I don’t want her to end up a grumpy ole pirate. Besides, the world is getting smaller day by day, there won’t be any place for her here.”
“What do you mean?”
“The pirates’ time is coming to an end, I can sense it. One day there won’t be anything more to discover. We haven’t gotten our hands on anything in years. The crew is washed up,” Captain Olfonse ascertained. He shrugged and stopped with the pacing to take a seat opposite to Serena.
“We have our freedom…”
“I want to go out big…,” Captain Olfonse interrupted and put up his ragged boots in the same spot Serena had hers only a moment ago. ”…so that the crew can retire properly. We could live on an island and just enjoy life. And I would…” No that wouldn’t be possible. “Anyway, you must have heard of Roger’s hidden treasure on the Emerald Islands?” He continued.
“Yeah, I heard about that story as a child. A hidden key is to be found on each of the seven Emerald Islands. With the keys combined you will be able to enter Atlantis and the Gods will give you a treasure worth more than anything in life,” Serena recalled.
“What if I tell you that I know where it is?”

The sun was beaming straight from above and the warmth was merciless. The two girls, Aster and Cheer, had never been on a ship before, they were long clothes from the city. The older one of the girls, Aster, claimed to be the daughter of a merchant. Although not complaining, she looked miserable where she scrubbed the deck, her hands were full of blizzards and the sun had made her skin take on the color of a boiled crayfish. Cheer had grown up a servant girl and was used to hard work, her skin was more resistant to the sun but she was noticeably frightened of everyone and everything on the ship except from Aster.
Sky had to her disappointment been group together with Aster and Cheer. The two girls didn’t pay Sky much attention, they kept to themselves and whispered to each other when they thought nobody was listening. The only other person on the ship close to their age was Angel, the Captain’s daughter, who didn’t make much effort to socialize with the new recruits. The time they had been sailing the open sea hadn’t been very eventful and Sky was starting to question whether she had made the right decision. She loved the feeling of freedom when sailing the sea and the wind gently kissing her skin, she truly did, but she missed the companionship she had at home and the adventures from her father’s many stories about his time as a pirate.
Neither Aster, Cheer or Sky had been invited to the meeting amongst the rest of the crew in the aftercabin. Where was the equality father always talked about? Sky wondered as she put the sponge back in the bucket. The deck was clean enough and they needed a break either way. Sky climbed up to the lookout tower on the main-mast and made herself comfortable. Up there there was only silence and peace and Sky almost started to feel a bit content. She had managed to get on a crew, maybe not the most prestigious one, but an old one. The Olfonse family had sailed the seas in generations with this very ship, Irie, and it was said that she had never gotten a single scratch.
Sky watched the sea, there was no glimpse of land in any direction. However, to her surprise she saw something that looked like a small white dot in the horizon.
“Sail ho! Sail ho!” She shouted.

***

“Sail ho! Sail ho!” The crew shouted as they watched a large galleon with snow white sails approach. On the sails were birch trees, the sigil of King Harald Birch III.
“Blimey!” Captain Olfonse exclaimed. He had to abruptly end the meeting and put away the parchment rolls. Thank God the Le Sage kid had been on a lookout, he thought.
“Haul wind!” Captain Olfonse hurried to the stern. “Long clothes, what are they doing here?” He then muttered.
“No idea. Though they seem eager to chase, Captain,” said Serena.
“So they do. Hide the new recruits, they might have something to do with all this.”
“Aye.”
Irie had outlived many other ships, however the King’s galleon was much faster and eventually caught up with her. Commander Schultz boarded Irie with his men who cornered the scabby pirates with rifles.
“Give us the princesses,” said Commander Schultz with his face at a mere decimeter distance from Captain Olfonse’s.
“We don’t have them,” the Captain spat. He very well knew how the princesses looked like and it was nothing like the new recruits.
“Princess Katheryn and princess Rose got abducted by pirates five days ago. Tell me where they are.” Commander Schultz pierced the Captain with his bright blue eyes.
“We. Don’t. Have. Them,” said Captain Olfonse and made an attempt to slung himself forward at the Commander but the two sergeants restraining him forced him back.
“Search the ship,” Schultz commanded and a handful of his men lowered their rifles to search the area.

Serena had taken Aster and Cheer below deck to hide them. She had found some empty barrels and told the girls to climb in and stay quiet. The barrel Cheer hid in was damp and she was surrounded by the syrupy smell of rum. After what felt like half an hour, the shouting on deck and sound of heavy footsteps went quiet and she heard the familiar voice of Commander Schultz.
“Give us the princesses,” he commanded and not long after she heard people walking down the stairs.
“Nothing here,” said one of the Commander’s men.
Cheer didn’t dare to move but felt a glimpse of hope to be rescued from the pirates. Surely these men would recognize her, or at least Aster, and take them home? Cheer thought.
“Clear,” another man said.
Cheer listened to the footsteps getting closer to her hiding spot. One of the men was so close that she could hear his breathing. Still, she remained as frozen. The men went back on deck and the small glimpse of hope Cheer had felt for just a moment disappeared with their departure.

One of the sergeants who had searched the ship went up to the Commander and whispered something. Commander Schultz nodded and narrowed his lips almost to the point that they got completely white.
“If you find the princesses and bring them to the King, you and everyone on this ship will be pardoned and designated free men of the kingdom of Westeria. However, if you set your foot in Westeria without the princesses you will be hanged according to the law,” Commander Schultz said and then turned to his men. “Release them.”
Captain Olfonse let the King’s men leave his ship in peace but not without a loud, wet spit and more than a dozen different curses.
“Find the princesses and we’ll be free. That’s all you ever wanted,” Serena said.
“We’re already free. We’re pirates,” the Captain replied grimly.
He walked down to the storage room to find himself something strong that could accompany a long night of pondering. On his way he passed the new recruits who stopped talking as soon as they spot him.
“What are you talking about, girls?” Captain Olfonse asked, his brown eyes glimmering in the dark.
Both girls looked frightened but the younger one widened her eyes in terror and nudged her friend in the side, encouraging her to talk.
“What’s taking you so long?” The Captain got closer to the girls.
“N-nothing,” stuttered the older girl. The Captain knew that they were hiding something and intended to wait in silence until they talked.
“We know where the princesses are,” Aster confessed.

Pff I’d be scared too lmao it’s good. And you shouldn’t change anything, I’d honestly be fine with her being a villain as long as she was in the story :joy:

Do you ever plan on publishing this story on other platforms like Wattpad,Tapas,Episode etc…? Or will this continue to be a ShanniiWrites exclusive :eyes:

No you!

I’ve thought about publishing on tapas of that’s okay with everyone who I base my characters off :joy: But for now it’s just on the forums. And with how slowly I update I don’t know  What do you think I should do?

Well, there is no harm in trying to publish it on Tapas. It can lead to more exposure to your writing and maybe even the forums if you happen to mention it.

In case you are really concerned about your writing tempo. You can always continue writing on the forums and publishing it on Tapas later .When you are mostly done with the story.

Oh, I like your points! :sparkles: I really consider it now. I could maybe write one more post for the forums and then break the posts into six chapters so that I can take it slow :joy:

Oh, true! I’ll make sure to mention it if I do publish it somewhere else :raised_hands:t3:
