Zelda and Cornelia entered the venue, Cornelia virtually invisible to the normal human eye because of the flashing lights. “Why are we here again?” Zelda asked her friend in annoyance. “Because I wanted to, and you need to get out more! No go do something!” Zelda said, literally shoving Zelda towards the dance floor. She stumbled, managing to catch herself before she collided with anyone. Zelda sighed as Cornelia disappeared into the crowd to do god knows what.

The King was trying to push her away, back to the underpaid departments she’d tried to navigate through a billion times. “I don’t think you understood me, Your Majesty. I’ve tried the Complaint Department, and the Relief Department, and the Help Center, and everything other department with some variation of the same meaningless name. None of them have helped me. None of them have ever helped anyone. This is the exact reason why I’m talking to you.”
The king asked her what skills she had, and assured her that she’d be able to find an opportunity to use them. Again, he’d completely ignored what she’d been saying. “I’m a musician, I have been all my life. I’m self-taught, but I can play piano, guitar, and sing. No bands or orchestras will hire me without professional training. I can not afford any classes. There are no opportunities for me, just like I said before, if you were even listening.”
“We are always looking for the next sensation, and the media will toss in bonus points for that sob story.” That was what the King had called it. Her life was nothing to him… Nothing but a “sob story”.
What kind of f***ing “King” was he supposed to be?
“I’m sorry,” Sonata chuckled a bit as she spoke, still trying to comprehend that someone could be so ignorant. “I’m sorry, I’m sure you wouldn’t understand this. A tech millionaire who could always do whatever you wanted to, becoming King and getting paid to exist. I’m sure you’ve been too busy drowning yourself in gold all your life to notice this,” She said, gesturing to the wasteful, beautiful decor of the palace around her, “But living is actually a pretty expensive thing to do for most people. It’s more expensive than it should be, really. And beyond your pretty palace and the big, shiny skyscrapers in your carefully curated capitol, there’s a real world out there, where real people have real jobs and real problems. I know it’s hard to tell from here in Disneyland where you’ve painstakingly designed everything to be clean and perfect, but your kingdom doesn’t stop existing past this city. There’s a whole island out there, and it’s not as perfect as you think. And nothing you try to make it perfect actually works. You can make all the fancy toys you want to, but how are we supposed to afford them? You can use your magic, but you can’t magic everyone up a well paying job. You can give us longer lifespans, but all that does is make us endure starvation and disease for longer than we have to. Celestia may be a utopia in your head, but anyone who actually lives here knows the truth.”
Sonata was surprised by her own fury. She took a second to take deep breaths and calm down before she got herself executed. “Have you ever heard of the French Revolution, Your Majesty?” She asked, a bit more calmly. “I doubt it, the rest of the world’s history isn’t taught much here. But there was a King and a Queen just like you and your wife who had the same palaces and clothes and food and ruled over the same struggling kingdom. When the Queen of that kingdom learned that her people were starving, she suggested that they all eat cake just like she did… Cake that no one but her could afford. It’s sort of what you’re telling me right now, actually. And do you know what happened? People got tired of starving. And they didn’t eat cake. They rose up ate the rich. The same thing might happen here.” She said emotionlessly. “And that’s not a threat. It’s a warning. So please, take it as a wake up call.”

If someone was truly talented at this gal explained, joining a prestigious band wouldn’t have been that hard. Even if some of them teetered on training and experience, there was always a ladder starting with small gigs and groups. Life was supposed to be a challenge ladder up; something motivates everyone for the potential greatness up ahead. Jaxon didn’t deal with seeing submitted issues up close because not only was there an entire department for that, but the mentality of these so-called ‘lower-class’ was always going to be different. Everyone would want their way up, even if it meant begging for help from those who already made it. Currency didn’t sprout up from magic, and handing it away to every bloke that claimed that didn’t have an equal opportunity would only slide those funds into drugs and wasted skill.
Victory Day was a celebration of the safety of Celestia, how King Wilfred and Queen Amelia were able to fend off the human terrorists. Even now, some humans from the outer world lingered, very much like the girl in front of him. Although it was harder to tell with what looked like poorly done cybernetics, her knowledge of the outside word’s history had to be an indicator. So she was an idealist, comparing the sanctuary of Celestia Haven to whatever rubbish the humans had turned the outside world into.
“I’ll presume that you’re relatively new here; well done, you’re managed to get this far while ruining one of my only nights off. We don’t send out unlimited invites because the ballroom would be in shambles with the lingering free-for-all. You’re right, it is expensive to host such an event, but it’s all profited from legacies we’ve built ourselves. There is always going to be a way to improve your ideal living situation as long as you want it bad enough.” That should have easily been enough to tell the girl off. She was noble for her own version of self-rightness but in the wrong direction.
It wasn’t worth it; he really should have indulged Mace. Jaxon turned to leave just as the same musical snapped out the next segment of her argument. If everything before was toeing the line, now they were past not calling in intervention. It would be all too easy to summon the palace security and never to see this girl again.
“You’re a brilliant person,” Jaxon warned, “And as much as you think your crusade is courageous, we aren’t living in a story, and you aren’t the protagonist. I don’t run a charity, I run a kingdom, and it’s been standing for all these years without so much as this revolution you talk of. Perhaps you just need to perform the proper way, like everyone else, instead of depending on others.”
“Now, if you could leave. As you’ve so willfully ignored, this gala is invite-only, for reasons such as yourself barging in.”

He still wasn’t listening to anything she was saying. How was it possible for someone to be so blind? No matter how hard she tried to calm herself down, Sonata couldn’t dampen her fury. She stood there, trying to take deep breaths and tell herself that everything was going to be fine, but she couldn’t tell herself that anymore, now that she knew it was a lie. Nothing was going to get better, nothing was ever going to change, not while spoiled egotists like this were in charge. Her heart was beating faster and faster, her hands were clenched into fists and shaking. Without her even asking them too, her speakers began revving up. Before she could stop herself, she emitted an ear-splitting sound; It was loud enough for everyone in the palace to hear, and it caused every door, window and ear drum nearby to rattle. The sound created a huge shockwave that knocked people off of their feet, shattered glass and crystal, sent furniture flying. In one fell swoop, the beautiful palace was in complete disarray. Sonata opened her eyes to see all the damage she had caused and backed away slowly.
“I-I’m sorry…” She said quietly. “I didn’t mean to…”
The castle security was coming for her before she could explain herself. With her emotions still raging, Sonata rushed to defend herself but was still only doing so half-consciously. She pushed all of the guards back with another shockwave and started running towards the exit.

Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be the first guest who went out of hand, though never before at this big of an event. With luck, she would leave quietly because he wasn’t in the mood for writing up the first hand account by summoning security. On top of that, it wasn’t as customary to openly use destructive powers at a gathering like this, not that Eva wove much usable material into the room’s layout.
He was just about to reiterate the command to leave, a little bit of a second chance since the musician really did have potential. The only ones that were brave to approach him directly were mad lads and the very ambitious; she’d probably gain her fame elsewhere being part of the latter group. Instead, too late did he realise her shaking, powers and cybernetics flaring to life. Jaxon summoned a holographic shield in front of him, not having guessed the exact specifics of the ability. An ear-splitting sound emanated out, tearing into each guest and destroying most of the crystal decorations Eva had set up. It didn’t last long, but the ballroom was a mess by the end, panicked guests, halted music, and a shocked wave through the group as they stumbled away. No one knew the uninvited girl, thinking the worst immediantly. Even as guards surged forwards, Jaxon knew that someone was going to paint it as a failed assassination attempt just for the tabloids. Just another day at the palace.
The musician didn’t have to ruin all her chances with a bloody move like that. If only she’d actually walked away when he told her too, now there was no future with her face all over security. Perhaps it served her right even with what she retaliated with.
His viewport synced back to standard time after analyzing the mess behind him, the remaining action playing out in real-time rather than the slow-motion his scanners picked up. The mystery musician was already running for the exit, swarming security trailing after her. Several of them approached Jaxon checking in, throwing out questions while he watched the strange girl as she fled the palace.
In a way, maybe she was the entertainment he’d wished for. At least this way, something fun had actually happened that wasn’t Evangeline and her speeches. Who would have thought, all those questioning conversations just for someone to snap and make an entertaining mess. The guards around looked more concerned that he was going to blink off himself to fight this intruder, not that they would be incorrect for any other situation.
“The others will catch her,” Jaxon replied, shrugging off the attention and striding for his wife. He snapped out a few more drones, letting them hover off to run repairs on the various windows and lights. Somewhere between all the pandemonium, there was that flickering feeling again, that passion for the fight, something wonderfully chaotic going down, and it was just so rare these days with all the order and rules.
Bonnie, Eva, and Mace were still at the table, along with the surprise appearances of Varian and Trinity who were both clutching Eva’s dress for comfort.
“Business as usual?” Jaxon queried as he approached, “This place will be fixed in a matter of minutes, and I can add in a complimentary coupon for the Cain Industry catalogue for all troubles tonight. It’s hardly that late; we haven’t even shot off the fireworks at midnight.” He knelt, holding Trinity’s hand, “You still want to see the colourful explosions in the sky, right? A little intruder like that shouldn’t stop us from having a wonderful night.”

Amaranthae laughed loudly, “Who says I fabricated anything? You? In the big picture you’re nothing but a-” At the moment a clearly immature someone threw a fit and unleashed a devastating sound attack to which the experienced witch immediately without hesitation, turned and responded with a magical wall to protect as many of the guests as possible while also creating another more difficult shield above other guests to protect them from the falling glass and rubble which became harmless dust as it passed through the shield. She gently blew air from her mouth while sustaining both shields with her hands, the wind cleared the dust off the guests where the glass would’ve fallen. She then blew more wind to form a wind wall to protect the king and queen from any more potential attacks. When it was clear the danger had passed, she took down both shields as well as the wall of wind surrounding the royals.
She made sure her hair was still ok and fixed her dress, she turned back to Quintin, “Right, what were we discussing?” She asked as if nothing even happened.

“Uhh…” he glanced left and right following the explosion, then back to the dark mistress. “What the hell…” he whispered, backtracking amid a few other panicked guests. It wasn’t exactly disputed zone, some sort of alternate reality, and even now, trouble managed to follow Amaranthae. He was still terrified, that didn’t change; he was just equally aware. The powers worked differently, the magic mostly, and there was no telling the new capabilities relating to how his control would hold.
At least he was somewhat less worried about the whole death thing, not with the royal family nearby. Actually no, Amaranthae could probably kill him and no one would be able to do sh^te because that’s just how she was. Everyone was relatively distracted, he could still leave, no one would notice but her and even then, she would have killed him already if that was her true intent.
“You were explaining the reason you felt like lying that night,” he instead shot back, taking the bait.
Ha, there goes my last moments.

Gwenyth breathed softly, this was it, the moment she had been waiting for her entire life. A place where she could be herself. Then again this was a party but at least it was an atmosphere that hopefully would accept her for who she is, she had no control over her genetics but she was proud of them nevertheless. They were born of a true love, between her parents. She slowly strolled into the party and sighed, one last chance to turn back…or the first chance to truly be herself. Gwenyth removed the thick hooded cloak that she always wore to hide her ears to reveal a ‘dress’ made of blue and black dragon scales. The scales rippled softly in response to the coolness of the air, yea her dress was alive. People had a phrase that she never really understood until now, ‘being comfortable in your own skin…’, she could feel the scales moving slowly that one would have to really focus to notice any subtle movement, but she could feel it, the air, the atmosphere, and she liked it. When she caught sight of her reflection she gasped softly, her long brunette hair in a braid over her shoulder, the way the scales she willed forth in the shape of a dress complimented her white skin and small pointy ears. Her mother called her beautiful before she left, but this was the first time she actually felt beautiful. Come on…let’s go be Human for a change and actually try to dance Gwenyth slowly, nervously approached the dance floor and decided to wait and see if anyone actually wanted to dance with her or if they’d go running scared.

Sythaerin stood with a couple of people in the party hall, pretending to be interested in whatever conversation the others were making. He was forced by his parents (and his creator) to attend this stupid party. According to the information they gathered when stalking Lily, they said she would be here this evening. But he didn’t see her or any of her friends or family. Muttering something under his breath in annoyance, he looked around the party hall, noticing all kinds of weird and crazy people. Between them, he spotted an interesting-looking girl. She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. No, wait, that was Lily. The Second-most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Sythaerin assumed she was an elf because of her long, elf-like ears, but there was something odd about her… He didn’t know what. She had worn a knee-length, blue dress made of… scales? Interesting — he thought and walked towards her. “Hello,” he bowed to her.

Gwenyth, shocked that someone had actually approached her, stood there for a moment mouth agape before she regained her composure and curtsied. “Hi.” When the stranger had bowed Gwenyth had noticed his ears and felt a little more at ease. He may have been a dark elf, but an elf nevertheless and Gwenyth always felt a little more comfortable with her own ‘kind’, well…one of them anyway. “Forgive my manners, my name is Gwenyth, what’s yours?” She asked, only giving her first, as she didn’t want to burden him with her full name, which was in three different languages after all.
@elixr ~ Sythaerin - Loooove the correction by the way! Feels so him.
“Forgive my manners, my name is Gwenyth, what’s yours?” she said after curtsying. “You are forgiven. It is nice to meet you.” he said. “I am Prince Sythaerin, son of King Zhoron and Queen Nalaea, and the future king of the Dark Elf Kingdom. Where are you from? I don’t think I’ve seen you in my kingdom.” he asked her. “Would you like me to get you something?” he gestured towards the table with drinks. “I’m afraid this party isn’t interesting, but perhaps, the food and drinks are good.” he shrugged. “I may bring something for myself too, since I am quite hungry. Those appetizers are looking delicious, aren’t they?” he eyed the foods kept on the table.

Gwenyth smiled then shook her head, “The pleasure is all mine, Your Highness. I’m from a faction called Viserium.” Gwenyth giggled softly, “I am probably not welcome in your kingdom anyway.” The prince gestured to a table with drinks on them and she smiled, “apple cider would be nice, nothing too exciting,” tilting her head in reference to the champagne. She shrugged, “I guess so, I mean I only just arrived and haven’t tried anything yet.”

Gwyneth said she was from a faction called Viserium. “Viserium… that’s interesting. I don’t think I’ve heard of it before…” he rubbed his chin. “Where is it, exactly?”
“I’m probably not welcome in your kingdom, anyway.” she said. “And why is that? What’s wrong with you?” That probably sounded rude, but he wasn’t trying to be very nice to her. He wasn’t nice to anyone.
“Apple cider would be nice, nothing too exciting,” Sythaerin nodded to her and walked to the table to get their drinks. He grabbed a cup filled with apple cider for his acquaintance and a glass of champagne for himself (he’s a fancy boi, after all). He walked back to her and gave her her drink, “Here,”

She waited till he handed her the drink she requested and finished talking. “Uh…” Gwenyth thought for a moment, “it’s kind of hard to explain, but the ‘realm’ is called Contravisum.” She shrugged sheepishly, not entirely sure if realm was even the correct term or if it was something else. Sythaerin then bluntly asked why she wouldn’t be welcome in his kingdom followed by the very question she’d heard all her life and even asked herself multiple times. It was rather rude but she quickly dismissed the notion and took a sip of her apple cider. “Well, um. long story short: I am a Tribrid. I’m human, elven, and dragon.” She took another sip before gently cradling the glass in her hands, “The reason I said that, is because where I’m from the humans see my pointy ears and want nothing to do with me, the high elves, the race of elf I’m descended from, with their sense of superiority view me as an abomination, and the dragons, with the exception of my mother, are ashamed of me.” Gwenyth took a step back and half expected one of the two usual reactions: Either the person runs away or they gather a mob and try to kill her.
@elixr ~ Sythaerin
“Contravisum… I don’t think I’ve heard of it.” he furrowed his eyebrows, trying to recall any memories of hearing about her realm before. Oh, whatever – he took a sip of his champagne.
“I’m a Tribrid. I’m human, elven, and a dragon.” she said. Sythaerin was fascinated. “That’s an… interesting combination. This is the first time I’ve met a tribrid. I’ve heard of them, but there are none in my kingdom.”
Sythaerin didn’t react for a second. Gwyneth looked a bit uncomfortable. “Ah, well I don’t think you’re an abomination,” he said, and he really meant it. “I’d like to know more about you. About being a tribrid and how it works…” he took a sip from his glass. “If you’re okay doing that.”
⛧ @Bluecookies ⛧

Gwenyth nodded, “Yea, it’s definitely…unique.” She says hesitantly before taking another sip of her drink. Of course she expected there to be hate for her no matter where she goes. The elven prince called her an interesting combination. Gwenyth laughed softly, “Love is an interesting thing, I suppose.” She was surprised by his interest in her and that he thought she wasn’t an abomination. “Then you would be the first. Well, other than my parents of course.” Gwenyth smiled softly at his inquisitive questions about her, “If I tell you, I suppose I should tell you my full name first.” She then told Sythaerin her full name, fluently and gracefully slipping between English, Elvish, and Draconic for her first, middle, and last name. She curtsied once more now having made a more formal introduction.
Gwenyth took another sip of her glass and took a deep breath. “As I was told, it all began with my grandfather many years ago. He was a young adventurer who enjoyed everything and everyone. According to my father, he was drinking in a local tavern and the most beautiful elven woman he had ever laid eyes on walked in to ask for safe haven from the storm and ask directions to a nearby city. Hearing this, my grandfather offered his services as an adventurer to guide her to this city as the road was treacherous and many dangers lay ahead. From bandits to looming mountains with unstable debris and everything in between. My grandmother turned him down at first then went on about her business. To keep the long story short, my grandfather ended up rescuing my grandmother several times before she decided to allow him to accompany her along the rest of the expanse. When they arrived, their adventure had brought them closer and well that night upon finally arriving…” Gwenyth trailed off before continuing. “He then left the next morning and none of my family have seen him since.
My father, on the other hand, was a noble half-elf adventurer; he helped everyone he came across including my mother, saved her life actually. More time passed they fell in love and had me. Oh, um, I should say my mother was actually a dragonborn, not a full dragon, but the dna I inherited from her was indeed all dragon. My father’s dna attributed a mix of human and elven traits and of course nothing is ever simple with magical bloodlines thrown into the mix so…,” She gestured to herself, “Here I am.” She said softly with a small uncomfortable laugh.
The scales of her ‘dress’ rippled softly upon feeling a slight breeze. Her elven ears twitched a little but other than that, it doesn’t seem to bother her as she was lost in thought. “As for how ‘it’works, I can choose to express my draconic traits, the scales, tail, wings, the eyesight…or I could hide them but only up to a certain degree as nothing can truly hide forever. Mother says it was the elder dragons’ “gift”, but I believe it was more like covering up a mistake that could and would be reflected negatively on the pride of the entire dragon race.” Gwenyth shrugged and finished her drink. “I think I need another drink…” she said chuckling nervously as she approached a nearby tray and picked up another apple cider and drank nearly half.

After a short while of not responding, Gwenyth decided to leave the guy alone before he could call her an abomination or worse, gather a mob. She uneasily made her way to the neon flashing dance floor, bumping into people only to immediately apologize and get away as fast as possible. To anyone watching her, it was obvious that she was out of her element here. However, once the music turned up a little more and the beat filled the room, she started to let loose a little and dance. She let out a laugh and flashed a beautiful white smile, she actually felt…good, for the first time in well, ever. In her world ‘people’, well, let’s just say most species’ are included in that demographic not just humans, hate that she exists. Here she saw all kinds of people and species. It felt like the weird kids’ club. She liked that. Once the song was over, it was replaced with a slow song and everyone paired up, except for her, she was all alone on the dance floor.
