Rose’s bad writing, part 2! 
I'm disgusted at my middle school self
“Have fun!” Mom said, dropping me off at the Summer Falls’ Spring Fair. “I’ll be back to pick you up by seven.”
“Okay. Thanks, Mom.” I give her a quick hug and then step outside in the warm, spring air. It’s not that sunny, actually, but the temperature is just right to have a fair.
“Hey, Alice!” someone calls out when I enter the fair.
I follow the “someone’s” voice. It lands on Nicolette, my best friend.
I wave. “Hi!” Then I run over to her and say, “Where’s Carissa and Charlotte?”
Carissa and Charlotte are twins, and they’re our second best friends.
“They’re not here yet,” Nicolette said. “Carissa just texted me. They will be coming here in at least fifteen minutes.”
“Oh. Okay.” I said.
Nicolette smiled, then said, “Where do you want to go?”
“I don’t know,” I reply. “Maybe the jewelry making station?”
“Sure,” she says. “Let’s go.” She grabs my sleeve and starts tugging me along.
“Hey,” I said. “Don’t drag me. I’m not a toddler.”
We both walked over to the jewelry making station, laughing.

Carissa and Charlotte came to the fair about twenty minutes later.
“Thank goodness you’re here,” Nicolette said. “I thought that you weren’t coming.”
“We’re just a little late because of Lisa,” Carissa said. “Her school’s carnival started at eleven, and it just ended a few minutes ago. We had to pick her up.”
Lisa is Carissa’s and Charlotte’s ten-year-old sister, and she’s in the fourth grade. We’re in seventh, and we’re twelve.
“Yeah,” Charlotte chimed in. “Lisa wanted to come to the fair too, but Mom’s not letting her, because she already went to the school carnival.”
“Yeah,” I said. “She already had too much fun today. She went to her school carnival and hung out with her friends. Too much fun is enough!”
We all cracked up, including me. Then Nicolette said, “So, where do you want to go?”
“I want to go to the face painting place,” Carissa said. “I like getting my face painted.”
“Okay,” Nicolette said, and then we were off.

After we got our faces painted (Nicolette and I didn’t; we hate face painting), we decided to hang out at the snack bar for a while. We noticed that’s where most of the teenagers were.
Unfortunately, Carissa’s and Charlotte’s parents came to pick them up, and so the twins had to leave. When Nicolette asked them why they were leaving so early, Charlotte had explained that her mom’s a real estate agent and she has to go back to her office for a while. If the twins’ parents left them at the fair, it would be too late when they came back to pick them up.
So Carissa and Charlotte left, and then Nicolette and I hung out at the snack bar.
“Have you heard about that new girl, Peyton?” Nicolette was saying. “She’s new to Summer Falls.”
“Yeah, I have,” I replied. “Everyone in the grade is saying that she’s weird. Is she in seventh grade?”
“Yeah, she is. She truly is weird, too. I only saw her once. She was chewing the ends of her hair.”
“Ew!” I said, making a disgusted face.
“I know, right? She’s not going to have many friends if she does that weird stuff.”
“Yeah,” I agree. “Jenna, a girl from my math class, told me that Peyton’s in her science class, and she sits next to her. Every day, Peyton sniffs her school supplies.”
“I feel bad for Jenna,” Nicolette said. “Peyton sniffs school stuff?”
“Yep. Does it every day.”
“Oh. That’s disturbing.”
“I know.”

During lunch, I was completely overwhelmed. All the tables were full. There wasn’t one single empty one.
So I sat down next to a short, brown-haired girl at table five. Why do they number the tables? That’s weird.
The short, brown-haired girl was talking and laughing with a bunch of other girls. Then, I noticed she was pointing to me and laughing with one of the girls. Then she elbowed me. And it hurt.
“Oops, sorry!” she said as the girl next to her giggled.
Whatever, I thought angrily.
Suddenly someone tapped me on the shoulder.
I turned around. It was a girl with long, black hair swept into a ponytail.
“Um, hi,” I said awkwardly.
“Come sit with us,” she urged. “This table is full of bullies.”
“Hey!” the girl next to me yelled. “You are a brat, Cassie!”
Cassie rolled her eyes. “See what I mean? Come on.”
“Um, okay,” I said. There are so many disadvantages of being the new girl. I packed up my lunch and hurried after her, ignoring the brown-haired girl’s stern glare.
There were two other girls at Cassie’s table. The table’s shape was different; instead of rectangular like the brown-haired girl’s table, this one is round and has just enough room for four people.
“Meet Alena,” Cassie said, pointing to a girl with long, chestnut-brown hair that was curled. Then she pointed to a girl who had blonde, shoulder-length hair. “And that’s Adela.”
“Nice to meet you,” I told them.
“Same,” Alena said. “What’s your name?”
“Millie,” I reply.
She nodded. “I’ll try to keep that in mind. I forget everything.” She smiled.
“She’s like Dory from Finding Nemo,” Adela said as Cassie giggled. “It’s like she has short-term memory loss.”
“You do?” I asked.
Alena looked sheepish. “Well, no,” she said, “but I still do forget stuff. Which might explain the reason why I have a D in math. And a C in all other subjects.”
The three of them giggled. I didn’t think it was very funny. Why should someone laugh because they have a D in a subject? Strange girls.
“Alena, stop,” Cassie said. “You’re freaking her out.”
“Or am I?” Alena said.
“Just stop,” Cassie pleaded.
“She’s not freaking me out,” I told her.
“See? Boom!” Alena thrust her fist into the air.
Suddenly I saw someone approaching us. It was the brown-haired girl who had elbowed me.
“Is she supposed to be here?” I asked quietly.
“Oh, God, no,” Adela groaned. “That girl is a pain. She totally freaks me out.”
“What’s her name?” I asked.
“Mia,” Cassie replied.
“Can you just make that ghost go away?” Adela pleaded.
“You think she is a ghost?” Alena asked, giggling.
“She’s an evil witch, too,” Cassie said. “You should see the way she laughs. She cackles.”
“Please stop!” Adela begged. “You’re freaking me out!”
“Okay, okay, okay!” Cassie said, marching over to Mia.
“What is she doing?” I whispered.
“She’s going to send her away,” Alena explained. “Cassie has one of those voices that can make anyone do anything.”
“Including Mia,” Adela added with a shudder.
So far, out of these girls, I think Adela is the strangest. How can you be scared of a girl? I would never say that out loud, though. Never.
“So, I see you’ve got a new pet in your group,” Mia told Cassie. “What animal is she going to be?”
Cassie shot daggers at her. “Why do you care?”
“Excuse me?” Mia said. “I own this school - ”
Cassie burst into howls. “You? Own this school? I don’t think so.”
Mia glared at her.
“What? All I did was laugh at you because you said that you own this school.” Cassie was still laughing. Almost everyone in the cafeteria was staring at the two girls arguing.
Mia just kept on glaring.
Cassie turned to leave, then turned back around and faced Mia. “Oh, and by the way, you know I would slap you, but I don’t want to make your face look any better.”
The whole cafeteria burst into laughter, even Mia’s friends.
“She got you so bad!” Alena shouted to Mia while laughing.
I have to admit, I laughed too.

Abby had made a huge mistake. She had walked into Felix’s room and went into her closet.
Worst of all, she was stuck there.
No clothes. No shoes. Just a forest. Gems fell from ether side of her, the sun reflected on the gems.
She did not want to see gems, she just wanted to go home. But she couldn’t see anything, couldn’t leave.
“Hello?” Called Abby into the forest. Nobody came. Birds flew everywhere.
Abby hated this place already. She slipped on her hood and walked towards a city. It was so far away…
“Hey!”
Abby gasped and ran away.
“Hey!” Said the voice. It sounded like a… robotic girl. “We’re supposed to know each other!”
The girl finally caught up with her. She had black hair in two buns, and half of her face was metal.
“What do you-!” Abby said, but then the girl began pulling off her hood. “Take off your hood!”
She said.
“STOP!” Abby yelled but it was too late. Her blonde hair fell down her shoulders. Her bright blue eyes were revealed, and her black eyelids showed. She stared at the girl with a stern look on her face.
“My name is Elena,” the girl said.
“Why did you pull off my hood?” Abby said.
“Because you were new, and I like meeting new people.” Elena said.
“I don’t even belong here.” Abby said.
Elena looked offended. “So you’re saying this place is bad?”
“No…I-“
“Oh! You traveled here, right!?” Elena said. She looked excited. Abby didn’t want to rain on her parade, but she couldn’t lie. “I’m stuck here for some reason.”
“Well, enjoy your stay!”
Abby felt frustrated. Elena didn’t understand. She needed to leave, and she needed to leave now.
My first proper story was written when I was in Year 4, about 8 years old. It was historical fiction, and was supposed to be a short story (like one page) but ended up being 14 A4 sides 
it was about a couple, Cromwell, who were secretly assassins and decided to go around assassinating people for… no reason…? I remember Mrs Cromwell’s tactic was to hide behind the curtains and leap out with a mace

Catholic Christianity In Medieval Europe
Christianity dominated Europe in (times of medieval ages). It influenced a lot, architecture, laws, wars and even the spread of science and writing. Although some bad things came because of Catholic Christianity (the crusades), without it, Europe wouldn’t have progressed through the middle ages as much as it did. Even though the crusades were utter devastation altogether, they paved the path that would take Europe to the Renaissance.
Christianity started in Rome, when Rome moved from its own Gods and moved onto Christianity, brought on by Constantine. After it grew in Rome, missionaries sought out to spread it elsewhere and took to Europe, in which Europe, at the time, had had very much pagan tribes. “Soon after the emancipation of Christianity in the Roman Empire, missionaries bravely ventured into the dark corners of the European continent to spread the Gospel among the barbarian tribes, from the dark forests of northern Germany to the green pastures of Ireland.” Then the Franks converted, and following the Franks were the
In the “dark forests of northern Germany” lived the Gothic tribes. The gothic tribes were one of the earliest tribes to convert to Christianity, doing it so near the fall of the Roman empire. After this, Christianity was spread in both Gaul and in the “green pastures of Ireland”. Even as Rome fell, several of the tribes that invaded were Christian. “What we should not forget, however, is that several of these tribes were Christians, having been converted by missionary pioneers such as Ulfilas.”
Many of these tribes converted to Christianity because many had already been converted even before Rome fell. It became a matter of converting, otherwise their trade would likely be affected. This was a matter with the Vikings, “A Viking trader might then wear a cross when he was among Christians only to change it back to his usual Thor’s hammer upon returning home. As long as the Viking trader wasn’t baptized, he could practice both religions, a common practice in Scandinavia for the next few centuries.”
It is clear here that because of the success of the Christians, even without force of Charlemagne forcing people to convert, many converted anyway because otherwise, the Christians wouldn’t trade with them, or they could risk getting killed or forced to convert. So already, Christianity held the reins in terms of the direction of where things were going, particularly under Catholic Christianity, in which it was ruled by a Pope.
Popes during that time had extreme spiritual power, in the west they were more powerful than even kings. This is important to understand when understanding the crusades. It was Pope Urban the 2nd that called for the crusades to even happen in the first place. With his power as Pope, he managed to get a whole army of people to lead the first crusade, and eventually for a short period of time brought both churches, the Orthodox church in the east and the Catholic church in the west, together for this common cause of “God wills it!” or for the religion.
The fact that this Pope was able to gather Christians together in the crusades speaks to the power of the Catholic church and the influence they had at the time. They even aligned with the Varangian guard, or an elite division of Vikings, who they used as personal bodyguards. So even before the crusades (this was before the crusades), they have a lot of power and influence over Europe already. This is why when people look back at Europe, they can see that it was a heavily Christian dominated period, not just in terms of war but with writing, the spread of architecture through churches and church music.
After Pope Urban II called for the crusades, “a great expedition to help the Christian Bzyantine Greeks, under pressure from the Seljuk Turks, and to liberate Jerusalem and the Holy land from the Muslims” the crusades themselves started with heavy hearted soldiers promised passage into heaven. This crusade in 1099 with the Christians triumphant and the holy land regained. When Jerusalem was regained by the Christians, Baldwin of Edessa was crowned king of Jerusalem after the death of his brother, “His place was taken by his brother, Baldwin of Edessa, who, with far fewer scruples than his brother about being appointed the sovereign of the city of which Christ was considered to be the true monarch, was duly crowned king of Jerusalem on Christmas Day, 1100.” Pg 37
The second crusade started with the fall of Edessa in 1137. The west then gets called to help the Christians in the east, only to retreat when getting to Damascus when they are getting surrounded with Muslim troops, “On July 28, the crusaders began the slow march back to Galilee, harassed by Turkish light cavalry, and thence back to Jerusalem.” Page 55
After the Muslims capture of Jerusalem, captured by the famous Saladin, the third crusade began. “The Third Crusade (1189-92), prompted by the Muslim’s recapture of Jerusalem in 1187…”. Already starting off on a bad note, Christians in the west had less confidence and more doubt in this crusade after the disaster of the second crusade. “After the disaster of the inconsequential Second Crusade, many in the west began to crusader ideology in a less favorable light…” page 58. In the third crusade, at the end of it all, the Christians managed to snag a deal with the Muslims, they were permitted free access to Jerusalem and were allowed to keep Palestinian ports. This was a five year agreement. “According to the five year peace treaty finally agreed by Richard and Saladin, the Christians were allowed to keep the Palestinian ports as far south as Jaffa, except Ascalon, and Christian pilgrims were permitted free access to Jerusalem and other holy places.” Page 68.
The fourth crusade was probably the worst one (aside from the children’s crusade). This crusade was initiated by Pope Innocent III, intent on invading Egypt which was a vulnerable spot at the time. But they didn’t have enough ships and supplies to do so, so they go to Venice and strike a deal with the Venetians for some ships, but when they get there, they don’t have enough money. The venetians strike another deal, if they attack the port of Zara. They agree, even though it is a Christian town. Pope innocent is outraged and excommunicates them. After this, the crusaders sacked Constantinople, a truly devastating act of pure violence.With Constantinople gone, the Bzyantine empire was dismembered.
The fifth crusade regained Jerusalem for the Christians. After this, there were a series of small battles, but ultimately the Muslims won and got Jerusalem in the end. The Christians got to leave the city unharmed but homeless.
Although much harm was done by Catholic Christianity, it clearly had influence over Europe and the progression of Europe. It led to the end of feudalism, with Europe being severely weakened by these crusades. In the end, it was really Catholicism that brought this it even caused the fall of the Bzyantine empire! Although the crusades were devastating, it was the driving force that would lead it to the renaissance through the end of the feudalistic system.
