Blue Royalty: New Blood

There was no way to describe how Embry had felt over the past month other than completely and utterly miserable. She couldn’t stop thinking about how everything she had said to Daiane on Valentine’s Day had just been one mistake after another and she knew that she had hurt Daiane, which was something she had never wanted to do. She also couldn’t stop thinking about the envelope. Whether or not giving it to her was a good idea, if it had been cruel to end their argument by handing it to her and if she had opened it or not. If she had, what had she thought when she saw what was inside?

“Musse ich gehen?” She pleaded to her mother as she sat at her vanity, her mother doing her hair. Even though she knew she would regret it if she didn’t attend the prom, the thought of going without Daiane was still painful and she had started to wonder if it was worth it. She hoped that speaking in her mother’s native language would earn her some sympathy points but all her mother did was laugh as she gathered Embry’s hair into a bun. “Ich mache gerade deine Haare, also ja.” Her mother responded, placing the golden hairpiece on Embry’s head and securing it to ensure it would stay on for the entire night. “Es wird Spaß machen.” She added, hugging Embry before stepping back so she could stand up. Once she was standing, she put on her jacket, finishing off her outfit, and turned around so that her mother could see the final look. “What do you think?” She asked, switching back to English as she asked her mother for her opinion. “You look beautiful, Embry.” Her mother replied, putting her hands on Embry’s shoulder. “Thank you, Mutti.” Embry replied before going downstairs to where her driver was waiting to take her to the prom, alone.

When she arrived at the prom, she began taking photos to post on her account later, the account which she had regretfully neglected over the past few weeks but was planning to revive with a huge prom post. She wandered around, looking for things to take pictures of. Then she saw her. The girl who she had been avoiding, despite spending every day longing for her touch. Daiane. Standing there in a dress that made her look like she didn’t belong in this world. Embry stood back, watching her and wishing that it was her who had accompanied her tonight. Although, maybe it wasn’t too late to change that. With that thought, Embry began weaving her way through the crowd as a loud noise burst through the venue, distracting everyone, including Hera, which gave Embry the opportunity to put herself in front of Daiane. “Mind if I cut in?” She asked her, taking her hand and leading her away from Hera, towards a less crowded area of the dance floor.
