Blue Royalty: New Blood

Her memory was often a curse. At least, she considered it to be. Even after decades - some moments felt as if they had just occurred yesterday. This was the reason that when Dorian wasn’t home for a game or trip, she mentally returned to the time when she was 18 - unable to sleep at night with an urge to run as fast as she could. To run until her legs would no longer work and her lungs burned. However, that habit had been halted with the birth of her first child… well technically, since the conception of her first child. As little as she cared about her own safety, she cared about theirs and she cared about being there for her family.

That being said, her memory was indeed a curse because even being here - years after Jess had been around Malachi Azure it still made her feel as helpless as she did when she was with him. He had a way of bringing back all the frustration and anger she had… and the sadness. But in a way, she had done to him like he had to her - in a different way. Both had hurt each other and maybe… just maybe Jessica had lied to herself when she convinced herself it was right to keep this from him. Seeing him now, however, made her double guess that decision. There was hurt in his eyes that she understood… especially knowing his dedication to his family.

Though that didn’t stop the softest of scoffs with his next words - clearly filled with frustration. Maybe it was frustration at the situation than anything else, but she didn’t need his hostility: not now, not ever. Throwing the dress in her hand down on the bed, she looked up at him. “Right, because the mental torture you put me through made it so fcking hard for you to forget? We both know it was better for the twins that you weren’t there to do it to them, Kai.”

Okay maybe that was a pointed remark - but could anyone blame her? The longer she stood in the room with him the more she felt like she was standing outside the patio on his birthday hearing the news that he was using her. Her anger dulled, however, with his next words - bringing her back to the reality in which they lived in. “You need to see them for you? Or for them, Kai? Because honestly, I don’t know if can tell the difference. Are you really thinking about the repercussions of coming into their lives now? Or am I and my family going to, once again, be there to pick up the mess you leave behind when you eventually hurt them? You know what - I can’t do this… I’m too fcking tried of doing this. You want to go? Go ahead, I won’t fcking stop you.”
