Blue Royalty: New Blood

“I’m not sure what you mean, Ron. Me, growing?” He asked, advancing further into the house as she told him he was the old one. Without turning to face her he continued, “Have I not always been this tall and attractive?” Before Justin actually turned to face her, he hid the amusement in his face that had been paired with his playful tone of voice. Because, why not let her think that was a real question for a minute? Besides, if he was to drop everything to come here on whatever ‘emergency’ - which, hinted by the lack of alertness he was expecting on Veronica’s face, he concluded it probably wasn’t a big one - he would at least make her squirm a moment.

He lightly shook his head at the offer of a drink, as he knew it would probably only delay the point even further. Instead, Justin just sat across from her, sitting as if in a business meeting waiting on her proposition. He even clasped his hands together, because that’s what professional business people did, wasn’t it?

Veronica’s grand statement of him going to prom with her was followed by a short period of silence. That silence including Veronica waiting on a response from Justin, and Justin waiting for Veronica to tell him she was joking. For a moment, neither of them came. “In that case, I think I’ll take that drink,” Justin finally responded. “All due respect, Ronnie, you’re not my type,” He followed it up with a light tone, with a somewhat joking manner understanding that she probably wasn’t asking in that way. But what that really meant was: I just had a messy breakup with my last prom date, it’s probably not a good idea to be finding a new one right away.
