Kai didn’t know what he was thinking walking into that police station, bailing Annie Williams out of jail. Maybe he shouldn’t have gone, but he was past the point of no return. No turning back now. Though, just as the lady at the desk had stepped away for a moment, Kai was approached by someone highly unexpected. There was a group in the waiting area, three teens all in prom attire. In the lead was a girl, clearly on a set path towards him, with one young man who followed soon behind her, and another, who appeared visibly distressed, sitting in the chairs. When the girl began speaking, however, Kai’s attention went directly to her. Not because of her words, but because of who she was, Paige Pierce. Seeing her, face to face, he could see a resemblance to Anna and Jess, perhaps even a similarity to himself. He was looking at his daughter.
For a moment, he simply looked at Paige, unsure what to say. A part of his mind wondered what could have been if he’d known before, and another in a state of disbelief that the girl standing in front of him had been a little girl he once met long ago, and that she was his daughter. It was then that another girl came through the door, Annie Williams. Both girls were there in one place together. Paige’s attention went to Annie first, but Annie looked right at him, just to ask who he was. It seemed that was when Paige began to question the situation, as her attention came to him. “It’s a long story.” Kai didn’t know what the best way to answer that was. He didn’t know what they knew about him or what the best way to act in this situation was. Who he was to them, and why he was there, that was a long story. “Now, are you alright, both of you?” he questioned, wanting to know if not only they were both fine after the earthquake, but also if Annie was alright after being arrested.
