Blue Royalty: New Blood

Stress - it was something that Amelia Grace had grown accustomed to over the years. After all, while Phoebe was the one who could get away with going with the flow, Amelia was the one hounding her to study for the test they had the next day. It had always been their dynamic and… it likely always would be. There were only a few places where Amie felt like she could relax… a few people she felt like she could relax with and recently, she had lost more than one. Her mom… Alex… even Phoebe for a little while. And right now, she honestly felt like she couldn’t lose anymore.

A soft sigh escaped her lips as she walked into her favorite coffee shop - one she had become a regular at over the years. It was simply the perfect mixture of cozy afternoon perfection. The best study spot, the best place to gather her thoughts and write… not to mention, the coffee was absolutely amazing. And… well… she definitely needed it today. There was one thing in particular that had been on her mind for the past few days… and part of her needed a moment to think about it.

With a bright smile on her face, Amelia greeted the usual barista who had honestly become a friend at this point. The 35-year-old woman had owned the coffee shop for the past few years, having it passed down from her mother who Amelia adored. “Amie, hey sweetie. Did you want the usual?”

“Hey Christina. Yes on the coffee… on pastries though… what do you suggest? I’m feeling like I need a little pick me up.”

“Don’t worry, I got you. Why don’t you take a seat and I’ll bring it over in a second”

“Have I ever told you that I think I’m in love with you?.”

A laugh escaped the woman’s lips, “Every single day Amie and I swear if you stop saying that, we might have a problem”

“I wouldn’t dare.”

With one last smile towards the barista, Amie took her usual seat in the corner of the shop next to the window. Pulling her laptop out, Amie stared at the screen once again - something she had been doing for… hours. Situated on her screen was an email from her dream school in Italy - a message to click the link, log into her account, and see if she was admitted. Here was the issue… she couldn’t click it. While she had finally gotten a few acceptances here and there from her backup schools in the states, there was always a what-if with this school… one that would likely change the entire trajectory of her next year.

You can do it Amie. Come on. CLICK IT ALREADY. For fcks sake, are you a wuss? Are you going to chicken out of this like you chickened out of the 5th grade school play where you were playing a tree? A TREE. ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS STAND STILL AND THEN TWIRL. Sht

“Heeeere we are. One Americano and a dark chocolate, matcha croissant with a scoop of whip cream. Just wave me over if you need anything else alright? Also, you didn’t tell me your friend was back. I feel like that’s news you should share with your favorite barista, Ames. Especially since you were so sad all those months ago when he left on his tour. And with his adorable girlfriend too.”

With that, Amie broke her concentration on the email and found herself facing the barista with confusion. Alex? He wasn’t bac-

Okay.

She would say that but as she turned around towards where the barista was looking, her eyes locked onto two people settled in a booth. Two people… with one including Alex.

Alex.

Her… former friend that she hadn’t talked to in months.

Her friend that she had left it on bad terms with.

Her friend who had basically told her through dms that he was done with her.

Her friend who was… for some reason with Logan… kissing?

Wait.

Kissing?

When did they…

Was it bad that Amelia felt her heart fall in her chest? The same feeling she had when she knew she had messed up with him all those months ago. Amie wanted to look away… turn back to her life but she couldn’t. Her eyes were fixed on the two sitting on the opposite end of the coffee shop.

When did Logan and Alex happen?

And when the hell did he come back?

Okay she should leave. Yes. That’s it. Amie was… intruding. This was intrusive. She shouldn’t watch this. She couldn’t watch this. Okay Amie… slowly get up and walk OUT the door. Now. NOW. PULL YOUR EYES AWAY FROM THIS WOMAN AND LEAVE BECAUSE YOU CANT KEEP WATCHING THIS.

And that was, of course, the intention - to slowly close her laptop, shove it back in her bag and rush out and go home. OR ANYWHERE ELSE. And… AND SHE WAS ALMOST THERE. Almost being the operative word because as she reached for her laptop, she tipped the coffee over - dropping it all over her laptop which resulted in… quite literally smoke being released from her laptop.

Smoke.

SMOKE WAS COMIGN OUT OF HER FCKING LAPTOP.

“Fck” Amie screeched - burning herself in her process as she tried to take her laptop and place it upside down so the liquid wouldn’t… hurt it more? Was that a thing?

No?

Well… so much for not being noticed - because here she was in the middle of the room with her friend Christina running towards her with napkins and everyone turning to face towards her.

And yes.

She meant everyone.
