Blue Royalty: New Blood

“Yeah, I lived there for a bit when I was younger before I came to France.” He explained, nodding when she said that she hadn’t seen much of the state. “I haven’t seen much of it either. My parents and I didn’t really leave the city we lived in and any time my parents travelled outside of it, they usually didn’t bring me.” He added, rubbing the back of his neck.

“Enchanté?” He repeated as if that wasn’t the only thing he’d said in French and he had to confirm what she wanted him to translate. He knew when he said it that there was a high chance that she wouldn’t understand it, having made it very clear that she didn’t speak French, but it was a common enough phrase that he thought she might’ve seen it on tv or something. “It’s just something French people say when they meet someone for the first time. Kind of like saying ‘nice to meet you’." He explained to her.

He listened to her talk about being jet-lagged and how this was her first time flying. “Well, I start work at 9 if you need a pick-me-up when you wake up. Just in case it hits a little harder in the morning.” He told her. He smiled as a childhood memory crept into his thoughts. “I remember the first time I flew. My mom had to hold my hand the whole time during takeoff and landing. Your rollercoaster analogy is really accurate though. That’s exactly how it feels.”

He was shocked by what she told him next. He couldn’t imagine having to sit next to someone that was picked out because of their history. There weren’t many people that he wasn’t on good terms with but the few that he was on bad terms with, he would not want to be stuck beside them for that long. “That sounds awful.” He said, unable to think of a better adjective. “At least you and your ex are on good terms. That must’ve made it easier to be next to them.” He added with a shrug.
