“I’m pregnant.”
The words rung through Hayden’s head. Maddy was pregnant. His face hardened for a moment, before he turned to face her. “Hold on.” He stood and walked over to the counter, ordered a coffee, and walked back over to her. He was smiling, but it wasn’t because he was happy. He had found a temporary distraction. He sat back down in front of her and held his cup. “Can you repeat that? I wanna do a spit take.” He chuckled, but it wasn’t as light as they usually were. He took a sip of his coffee.
