Dance 3: Albina Northwick
He briefly nodded when she said that his mother was a formidable judge when it came to matters of the heart. One might think it would be the opposite, considering that his parents’ marriage had been arranged but she had shown with each of his older siblings that her judgement when it came to those matters was sound. “She is difficult to please, that is certain, but I trust her judgement.” He responded. His mama’s scrutiny was one of the reasons he was happy to keep his relationship with Albina as nothing more than friendship. He didn’t want to subject her to his mother.
He listened attentively as she advised him on what pleases a lady. Some of her advice he had heard before but the new information he made sure to take note of, feeling grateful that his friend had offered proper guidance. “Thank you, Albina.” As casual as he had been in asking her assistance, his thanks were genuine. “I will be sure to keep your advice in mind during the season.”
He smiled when she told him that his company had already improved her evening but his smile fell when she mentioned Orpheus. Finch’s relationship with Orpheus was complicated, to say the least, and he knew that he wasn’t innocent in that. He just didn’t know what to do to fix it. He cleared his throat, remembering that Albina was in front of him, not Orpheus. “I’m sure it wasn’t done with malicious intent.” He reassured her. “The ton can be scrutinous in their judgement but so much is happening tonight that I doubt many saw the end of your dance with Lord Langston.” He added, hoping to ease her worries.
