{ during dance 4 / with Corin }

⎯⎯ ୨୧ ⎯⎯

Margaret moved gracefully through the grand ballroom, her gown flowing elegantly with each step. Young ladies in their finest gowns sought the attention of potential suitors. Margaret, however, had a different mission tonight. She was not here to dance. Margaret was not here to pretend she was having the most wonderful ti- alright, she had to do that just to please her parents, knowing one thing leads to another and they would hear all about the ball and what their daughter was doing but let me continue. Margaret was not here to find a husband. She was here for a reason, and one reason only- alright maybe two, one being making her family happy but another, more important reason - witnessing everything that was bound to happen at the famous ball, having something to talk about with her friends and brothers. The truth was she hadn’t had any luck so far, from her brief interaction with her dear friend Augustus she couldn’t find out what happened before she arrived… not to fret, the night was still young.

She had heard whispers of Mr. Blackwood, the renowned traveler, whose tales of distant lands had intrigued the girl. There was not a single thing that would stop Margaret from resisting the temptation to seek out the figure who had occupied her mind ever since she’d heard about his arrival. A question lingered at the periphery of her thoughts - why was a man of such renowned travels and worldly knowledge gracing their town with his presence? She couldn’t help but wonder about the purpose of his visit, there was more to Mr. Corin’s arrival than met the eye. Of course she could leave this matter to her brother, hearing of the stranger’s earlier days with a gentlemen she once called a friend and Archie hopefully still considering Ilyas his friend, he would get all the information Margaret needed. But who could wait that long? Certainly not Margo.

She had never met Mr. Blackwood yet she was convinced that the gentleman standing across the room could be none other than him. His aura exuded an air of worldly knowledge, a man who had explored uncharted territories and experienced the extraordinary but she was expecting something else. Margaret was expecting to find the man engaging in a conversation with the prettiest ladies, or someone she was sure she would not be fond of, so to see him standing alone both intrigued her more and made her realize that the opportunity to converse with this traveler had presented itself. She had heard hushed rumors and innuendos about his connection with her family, whispers of a business that she was not yet privy to so she decided not to mix her family into this possible conversation. Not to go in depth about who she really was.

In her quest for knowledge and desire to be part of the latest gossip, she was determined to learn more about the man. ”Mr. Blacwood,“ Margaret’s voice held a gentle elegance, concealing the curiosity that lurked beneath her surface charm. She maneuvered through the swirling sea of skirts and tailored gentlemen to stand in front of the man. While keeping her expression rather stoic, her eyes sparkled with a mixture of curiosity and admiration as she bowed. ”I must admit, my lord, the world has its mysteries and its wonders, and I have heard that your travels have unveiled some of the most captivating secrets of far-off lands. But I am certain nothing can come close to this little town of ours.“ She carefully started, not praising the man as much as there was space to do it. A simple statement that could reveal a tiny bit of his reasoning to be here.
