It burned a touch to hear him speak of his father in such a way, but Albina pushed those thoughts aside. She smiled at Edgar’s explanations and insights into his own personality and behavior. “Your stoicism and ability to think things through are indeed admirable qualities, Lord Edgar,” she complimented, even if she was more rash and chaotic in her decision making, she could appreciate when someone was the opposite. “I can see how they can be quite beneficial in many situations. I believe every quality is connected to a negative and positive side” she pondered out loud, “And it’s fascinating to learn about the traits of Bavarians; it gives me a glimpse into the rich diversity of cultures and their influences on individual temperaments.” Her ever eager brain to consume more knowledge was satisfied by having this new piece of information available to her now.
She appreciated his openness to the idea that real people could be as intriguing as the characters in books. “I’m glad to hear that you’re open to the idea of studying and understanding people better,” she said with enthusiasm. “While I understand that societal norms may restrict your observations, there’s much to be learned from everyday interactions as well.” she gave him a subtle wink as she said this.
With a mischievous glint in her eyes, she continued, “How about we put your observational skills of humans to the test? Let’s say we’re at a grand ball, and you’re trying to discern who might be genuinely interested in the conversations they’re having and who might be polite but eager to move on. What subtle cues and behaviors would you look for?” By involving him in a hypothetical scenario, Albina hoped to encourage Edgar to explore the intricacies of human interactions in a more practical way, all while keeping the conversation engaging and lighthearted.
As for his thought-provoking question, Albina didn’t shy away from it. “No need to apologize, Lord Edgar,” she responded thoughtfully. “It’s an interesting question. If I knew my time was limited, I believe I would cherish moments with my siblings and try to make the most of our time together” She did not want to mention her mother in her reaction, as Albina was quite upset with her mother for how she had treated Edgar. “I am not sure if I could burden them with the knowledge I would die soon however. They mean the world to me.” As she spoke of her siblings, Albina couldn’t help but notice her brother’s subtle reaction. His eyes, usually evading her gaze, met her with a hint of something unspoken. While he was not one to get emotional easily, she could sense that her words had touched something deep within him. His gaze briefly faltered, and he seemed lost in thought, contemplating the significance of her words. Despite his efforts to avoid her eyes, Albina recognized the impact her words had on him
As she continued speaking, her attention shifted back to Edgar, “And as for doing something I’d never done before, I absolutely would, you’d find me traveling the world, seeking as many new experiences as I would be allowed, immersing myself in different cultures, and savoring the diversity of people and places. I believe it’s in those precious moments of exploration and connection that life truly shines.” her excitement about traveling and experiencing new cultures really showed through her face radiating.
“How would you deal with becoming aware your death is approaching?” she returned the question, interesting to hear what he would say. Even if the question was a touch morbid, she enjoyed how thought provoking it was.
