Calling on Azucena
It was yet another busy morning in the Ridlington household. Edith was yet again preparing her two youngest children for the next event of the social season: the day on which the single gentlemen of the ton visited the women who had interested them at the previous night’s ball. For Finch, this meant making sure he would leave an impression on the ladies he chose to visit, some of which had been determined by his mother. For Juliet, it meant preparing herself for the men who will be visiting the house. As always, his sister had the majority of his mother’s attention but that didn’t stop her from chasing him down the stairs as he went to leave.
“Finch! Don’t forget to visit the Hastingston household today.” She reminded him. Finch rolled his eyes as he reached the bottom of the stairs, having heard this at least ten times already this morning. All it did was further prove to him that he only mattered to his mama when she had something to gain from him.
“Yes, mama.” He responded, nearing the door and walking out of it before she could say anything else. His first stop after leaving his house was the local flower market where he picked up a bouquet of lilies before making his way to the house of Azucena Osuna, having learned through their years of friendship that they were her favourite flower. He and Azucena had courted during the previous season and while they had ended their courtship, her mother had requested that he visit her when he was doing his callings.
It was this same mother who answered the door and excitedly welcomed Finch in when he arrived at their house. He made sure to properly greet her, the way his mother had taught him years ago. She led him to where Azucena was waiting and smiled as they made eye contact. “Lady Azucena, you look lovely today.” As generic as his greeting may have been, he had not said anything that wasn’t true. “For you.” He added, offering her the bouquet in his hand.
