Calling with Edgar Füller

Albina listened attentively to Edgar’s reflections on faith and values. His observation about the similarities in core values across different belief systems resonated with her. She smiled in agreement, appreciating the sentiment that kindness and community are universal values.

“I agree, Lord Edgar,” she replied warmly. “The common thread of kindness and the sense of community are beautiful aspects of various faiths. It’s a wonderful thought that, regardless of our individual beliefs, there’s a shared emphasis on compassion and connection.”

As the conversation shifted to pastries, Albina’s eyes lit up with enthusiasm. His mention of enjoying pastries delighted her, and she chuckled at his playful insertion of German words.

“Bitte, bitte, Lord Edgar! It’s always refreshing to hear a mix of languages, and I appreciate the cultural touch,” she responded with a grin. “As for my favorite pastries, I have a weakness for éclairs and delicate fruit tarts. There’s just something exquisite about the combination of pastry, cream, and fresh fruits. Now, Schwartzwälder Kirschtorte sounds divine! I must try it sometime.” Her perfect pronunciation of the cake gave away that she spoke German decently well.

Edgar’s acknowledgment of the challenge regarding his father drew a thoughtful expression from Albina. She nodded understandingly, acknowledging the delicate situation. “I completely understand the complexities surrounding our families’ history. It’s indeed a delicate matter, and I appreciate your awareness of the situation. I would never want to put you in an uncomfortable position, especially considering your recent encounter with my mother.”

She leaned in slightly, lowering her voice to convey a sense of confidentiality, “Let us navigate this with care, shall we? I value our conversations, and I wouldn’t want any unnecessary complications to arise. Perhaps, for now, we can focus on our discussions and our companionship without delving too deeply into matters that might cause further strain. What do you think?”

At that moment her brother wished to speak up, she knew she couldn’t hold the truth from him however, she had kept it from him too long. But he was an adult now, he deserved to know what had truthfully happened, but before he could say anything she silenced him, by saying, “We shall discuss this matter later, Harvey, I wish to not delve into it now.”

When Edgar shared about Bavarian culture, Albina’s curiosity heightened. The mention of the German celebration of Jesus’s birth piqued her interest. “Christmas is a cherished celebration worldwide. I’d love to hear more about how it’s celebrated in Bavaria. Are there unique traditions or customs that make it distinct? The cultural nuances add such richness to the holiday spirit.” she inquired, wishing to understand the Bavarian Christmas on a deeper level.

As the discussion turned to literature, Albina’s eyes sparkled. “Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is a remarkable figure. ‘The Sorrows of Young Werther’ is a classic. I’ve read it, and the exploration of emotions in the narrative is quite poignant.”

When Edgar revealed his fear of climbing a tree, Albina couldn’t help but smile. “Not silly at all, Lord Edgar! There’s a certain charm in the simplicity of such experiences.” Her smile turned into a mischievous grin, “I find there’s a perfectly splendid tree right outside to climb! Why wait? Let’s make today the day you conquer that tree. I’ll even lend you a hand, metaphorically speaking, of course!” She playfully nudged him, her enthusiasm contagious.

With a teasing wink, she added, “Normally, I would climb up in that tree with you, but I can’t ruin my good dress for the callings today. So, you’ll have to share all the thrilling details of your ascent with me once you’ve conquered the heights!”
