“So you said it’s been quite a day? Fancy to run away with me then?“

Adeline’s face brightened up when she heard Archi say those words. It reminded her of their younger years, when he would take her on their spontaneous adventures. Well, in truth, they were mainly in the center of a grass field where Archi and Adeline would pretend to be pirates one day and superheroes the next. The young Archi was such a troublemaker; he had no concept of fear, which made it strange how they both got along. But the only reason Adeline would always follow him on their small and sometimes dangerous adventures was because she knew she would be safe with Archibald Hastingston. Adeline smiled at the memories. Oh, how simple those times were. There was no worry about whether or not she liked Archi or if Archi saw her more as a friend.

"We could find a nice house somewhere far away but probably isolated so we don’t have anyone trying to kick us out. We could be… Whatever and whoever we want. Or maybe you’d prefer to stay here?”

“A nice house…"Adeline murmured quietly, her breath escaping with a gentle sigh and her eyelids delicately shutting. She knew Archi was attempting to divert her attention from the present moment, and thus she surrendered escaping this place for a moment, even if it was merely within the limits of her mind. “It will be a beautiful white house with a room overlooking the river so I can paint. I can imagine the vibrant colors of the sunset reflecting on the water. There will be a small garden filled with blooming flowers to further enhance the tranquility of our escape." She opened her eyes, looking back at Archi, and scooted closer to him as she took his hand in hers, feeling a sense of comfort and security. She could feel his warmth radiating through their intertwined fingers, as if he were her anchor in this imaginary world. “Our house will have a large ole porch surrounding it, so in our old age, we can sit in our rocking chairs and laugh about how we managed to live a secretive life away from society for so long.” When Adeline met Archi’s eyes, a hush descended upon the space. She knew this was just make-believe, but oh, how she would follow him anywhere he wanted.

Adeline’s gaze descended as she humphed, “Truly, we can only dare imagine such a scenario, for should we dare to make it a reality, Atlas would not rest until he found us and tried to fight you for trying to take me away again.” She said with a delicate chuckle, “Remember that one time we tried to run away as little kids? Such foolish kids we were.” Adeline continued as she shook her head trying to hold back her laughter, “I was so scared when Atlas actually found us. I was on the verge of having to leap onto him in order to prevent him from kicking your butt."

Adeline often wondered why Archi had never entered into married life before. He certainly had quite the charm, and the Hastingston name was recognized far and wide. Archi possessed an undeniable attraction that captivated everyone in his presence. Simply his entrance caused heads to turn and woman to gather to him, eager to engage in conversation. It couldn’t be because he was waiting for her. No, not especially after—“Archie, why haven’t you found a wife yet?”
