Dance 1: with Lady Adeline Delaney

Captivated by each and every word, Magnus could hear her sincerity shining through in every sentence. Her compliment boosted his confident stature even more, if it were possible, as his smile reflected that. “Lady Adeline, your words touch me in ways I can hardly express. As you could probably tell by my words this past year, I am no creative genius,” he replied modestly. “Unlike you, who has a gift for bringing the beauty to life through your writing, and I am sure with your paintings as well.”
Seeing her cheeks redden slightly, Magnus lifted his hand to them to gently stroke one when they came closer enough to one another, while also whispering, “In your presence, I feel a sense of comfort that I have rarely experienced before.” Although his hand didn’t linger long at all. With her gaze lowering from his, he questioned his behaviour. In public like they were, being this affectionate was not something he did too often, particularly not at the first ball of the season.

As they continued to dance, her mention of the sunrise and the anticipation of a letter from a special someone filled him with warmth. “To be deemed ‘very special’ in your eyes is a privilege that surpasses words,” he said with a playful and slightly teasing smile. “I can’t help but wonder who this special someone might be. Perhaps someday you will share their identity with me, and we can revel in the joy together.”

Adeline’s concern for his well-being touched him deeply, a reminder that here there were genuine connections to be forged. “Thank you for your kindness, Lady Adeline,” he replied gratefully. “Indeed, the weight of responsibilities can sometimes be overwhelming. As you may remember me telling you that I find some escape in gliding through the water or the exhilarating connection with my noble steed, yet, I fear I may not truly rest until I find a princess to please Her Royal Highness.” Towards the end of his sentence something caught in his voice, which he briefly cleared before continuing, “However, in this moment, dancing with you, I find a respite from the demands of my role.”
