Summary

Matilda has been living in Marlfield since she can remember. Growing up on a farm with countless animals and acres of corn and wheat. Matilda had an overprotective mother who constantly kept Matilda away from the surrounding woods. However, every once and awhile she would sneak past her into the dense woods. The woods were Matildaā€™s happy place. It was quiet and went on for miles. Not to mention the beauty in it. Matilda always had a sense for animals. Any animal she touched would calm in an instant. Her father called it a superpower, however she took the realistic approach to it and figured it was just her calm demeanor. Matilda was homeschooled the best she could and only had interactions with her parents or animals. It was just last month when Matildaā€™s mother unfortunately passed away due to kidney failure. Sheā€™d been on the waitlist for years, but even if she got a kidney the family wouldnā€™t be able to afford it. Matilda was devastated and was unable to look at the woods without shame for herself. If she wasnā€™t so busy in the woods, maybe she couldā€™ve spent more time with her mother.

Is it possible for you to show a little more of Matilda and her motherā€™s relationship? It makes the end better because the end kinda seems a bit misaligned with what you wrote at the top.

Matilda was very close with her mother. Rather than teaching Matilda how to ride a bike she taught her how to ride a horse.
Every night Matildaā€™s mother would walk into the room and serve her warm milk to help her sleep. Matilda was never fond of the night.
It was just last month when Matildaā€™s mother unfortunately passed away due to kidney failure. Sheā€™d been on the waitlist for years, but even if she got a kidney the family wouldnā€™t be able to afford it. Matilda was devastated and was unable to look at the woods without shame for herself. If she wasnā€™t so busy in the woods, maybe she couldā€™ve spent more time with her mother.
That night, she sat in her bed waiting for her mother and when she didnā€™t appear, Matilda realized she was truly gone.

Itā€™s much better. What you included makes it easier for people to understand why she would be ashamed of herself and gives us an insight into her relationship with her mother.

All in all itā€™s really good.
