Xander was a bit nervous because this was his first time announcing everyone. He got up on stage as everyone hopefully was there on time. He cleared his throat before speaking,”Good morning campers! My name is Xander and I was helping with yesterday’s horse back riding. I hope you all had enjoyed it, but for today we are gonna spend it at the nearby Lake. There are activities that you will be able to do there besides just swimming. A Volleyball net that we will set up in case of use, along with the small cliff jumps. Don’t worry they’re not tall enough for anyone to get hurt.” He paused, glancing around at the campers before continuing. “You should go to where the trails start and just to the left there should be the walkway to the lake. If you don’t remember, just ask one of your counselors including me.” He nodded and waved everyone off. “That’s it for today then.” He walks off stage and is ready for anyone confused to come up to him if needed.

I had woken up and gotten dressed, going to the dining hall and listening do Xander. “Hmmmm, swimming…” I muttered, going to put on a
swimsuitand heading to the lake.

The activity of the day was going to be going to a lake. Natalia wondered whether or not it would be the same lake from yesterday as she got prepared. She was going to be swimming, so she wanted to put on a cute swimsuit. She wasn’t sure how she wanted to do her hair, so she just brushed it and left it down. She put on a frilly coverup for the walk over and grabbed a towel, since she thought she’d probably be cold if she got wet. She walked out and tried to see if she could spot someone she knew. She saw Jane walking to the lake and quickly ran to catch up to her. “Hi! Jane, right?” Natalia smiled at her as she slowed down her speed to match Jane’s pace better. “We met the other day. Are you excited to go to the lake?”

I was walking to the lake when I heard someone run up next to me. “Hi! Jane, right?” She asked. I nodded. “Yeah. Natalia, right?” She asked if I was excited for the lake and I shrugged. “Sure. Just don’t go underwater…” I muttered dubiously, giving her a look. “Trust me, don’t inhale any of that water…” I said.

Natalia wasn’t particularly fond of the outside, but she did enjoy spending time hanging out with friends. She also enjoyed swimming and hanging around in water, so she was looking forward to arriving at the lake, rather than walking through the wooded path.
“Yeah. Natalia, right?” “Yep!” Natalia was glad that Jane remembered who she was. It’s always good to make a strong first impression.
“Sure. Just don’t go underwater… Trust me, don’t inhale any of that water…” Jane looked uncomfortable talking about the water. Since Natalia had met her the other day at a lake, she wondered if something bad had happened. “Oh no, did you fall underwater the other day? Are you sure you want to go to the lake? You definitely don’t have to swim if you don’t want to.” Natalia hoped that nothing too bad had happened to Jane for her to respond like that.

“Oh no, I’m fine. The water there was super clean, both Rain and I drank out of it, so we’re fine. I sincerely doubt you’ll have a problem, but…Naegleria fowleri…you don’t want to know. Just be careful.”

“I’m glad the water’s clean. Sometimes lakes can get super mossy. Can you imagine going swimming in something like that?” Natalia shuddered slightly at the thought. She liked swimming, yes, but the water had to be clean. “Who’s Naegleria Fowleri? Is she a friend of yours?”

“Ew, that’s gross. Um, no. Naegleria Fowleri…you know what? Just look it up. It’s freaking me out just thinking about it…eeeeeeech…” I said, shuddering.

“Something tells me I would not want to look it up.” Natalia still wasn’t sure what she was talking about, but she decided not to press the issue. “So, have you been enjoying camp so far? We’ve only been here a few days, but I’ve had a lot of fun here. It’s nice to be able to meet so many people, right?”

“Hopefully you aren’t too miserable socializing. It doesn’t seem like everyone here is the easiest to talk to. I’ve just really enjoyed meeting new people and hanging out. It had been ages since I’d actually been riding.” The two of them approached the lake and walked up to the edge of the water. “Ohhh! Cold!” Natalia looked a bit concerned, but reached down to put one of her own hands in the water to test the temperature. “Wow, that’s really cold. I was hoping it would be a bit warmer than this.”

“Yeah, everyone’s kinda snobby, which you’d expect. “Wow, that’s really cold. I’d hoped it’d be a bit warmer than this.” Natalia remarked. “At least you’re weren’t thrown into freezings water like I was. That was a definite shock. Thanks Rain.” I joked. “You’ll get used to it if you go in a little at a time.”
