After sitting comfortably in one of the left-hand side’s Lazy-Boys and placing the helmet securely on his his head, a pulsing started in through his ears and across his skull. A faint ringing grew louder and before he could even think of taking off the helmet, Mav looked to be in unconscious to the physical world and on the screen above his chair, everyone could see Hermes. They saw him only seconds before Mav realised he was mentally inside the game, inside of Hermes.

The first thing Mav saw inside the game, right before Hermes’ eyes, was the solid block text:

єνє σηє: ƒιη уσυя тєαм αη єѕ¢αρє тнє мαηѕιση

After the text disappeared, Mav/Hermes was left in a quiet, rather long rectangle room. Standing on long blue carpet, with a width of 5 feet, that separated the beds that paralleled each side. The cool room seemed to be dimly lit with oil lamps scattered on nightstands between the beds. Looking left and right, he can see a door at either end of the long room, a little more than 17 feet in either direction.

Mav wasn’t a big fan of the idea of ‘escaping’ - implying that something might try to hurt them - but he began taking his time searching around the long-a*s room. Including the nightstands and the beds. Though the room was dimly lit and Mav would have perhaps needed a flashlight to see, Hermes was easily able to with his Darkvision.

Opal tapped on the screen a few times, cycling between options before finishing the character. She didn’t trust herself with this decision, but if she didn’t rip the band-aid off, she would’ve been doubting which option to pick for a while. Opal was still satisfied with the character, but she didn’t know if it’d be enough to help complete the challenge. Though it doesn’t matter now, what’s done is done. Opal focused on how to be an asset to the group with the character she chose. Tossing around ideas as she stood up and made her way to the stage.

As she walked onto the stage, she was a little nervous. Not because her life was at risk, no, she knew what she signed up for, and she was living on borrowed time anyway. Moreso, she underestimated how nervous being on a production stage would make her feel. Being watched by people she can only assume are expecting her to die was an odd feeling to say the least. Opal took a few deep breaths to calm the nerves. Then walked reservedly to her chair.

The canine tooth pulling at skin of right thumbnail, Ahana stared at the screen through the round glasses, rechecking the stats and features of the Variant Aasimar Rogue, Ashborn, while the announcement echoed in the theatre. For someone who was absolutely fine and confident about the whole competition thing until last night, her hands were extra shaky than usual at the moment even though the experience gamer in her managed to keep her head cool. Her character had to be perfect. She could not rely upon a team or whatever , after all they were strangers, from all around the globe and it was about money. Big deal.

In fear of her habit of overthinking messing up everything before the game even started, she quickly finished her character. For someone with a dark humour like hers, suddenly the idea of facing actual death made her uneasy. She waited, in pretense to be still working, while the first one to step up on the stage was the confident and smug looking guy and after another one she didn’t pay much attention to, stepped up. Ahana just didn’t want to be the first one. Now she took a deep breath and got up, and with fast steps, approached a vacant chair.

His dark vision definitely helped. To the right, along the far wall was one closed door. 4 feet left of it was a 6 foot long (and 3 foot wide) hard wood cabinet with two stone basins on top, which was the same length as each of the beds. One basin filled with murky water and the other thick with grime. Half a foot to the door’s right was one of the old unkept beds; the only one with its head toward the middle of the room and its feet touching the wall behind Hermes.
The other eight beds also sat out from the wall, but feet out, with 3 feet between them and one bedside table between two beds - making four bedside tables in total. Though there wasn’t much on them, no drawers or anything. Only a lamp on each and a pair of broken spectacles on one behind him. The beds all had tattered sheets. In front of Hermes, the closest left bed had an old checker board on it, while behind him, the second bed over from the one in the corner had on it a worn and faded map.
To the left, Hermes could tell that the room seemed to be not quite a rectangle; the bed furtherest on the left was in a corner. But the wall right-angled at the foot of the bed, extending back another 6 feet. 4 feet from the corner to the other door and then just over 5 feet to the right of the door. On that side, against the far old bare wooden table with two unstable chairs. At least, it looked care.

Getting themselves comfy in the chair closest to the stage stairs and furtherest away from the first person to sit down, Opal adorned the helmet. It didn’t taking for the pulsating to start and the feeling of nausea in the pit of their stomach. A faint ringing grew louder and then they were unconscious… sort of. The large screen above the first chairs split, showing a wandering Hermes and now Plasmoid somewhere dark.

The first thing Opal saw inside the game, right before Dreamseeker’s sight, was the solid block text:

After the text disappeared, Opal/Dreamseeker saw and heard very little. Well, mostly grey shapes actually. It was pitch black and nothing was moving. The room was small, about 15 feet long ahead of them and 10 feet across. To the right of them by a couple of feet was an odd round or square shape and ahead at the other end was a large oblong shape with something sitting on top.

Layla looked at the touch screen, likely the most clueless of the four individuals standing there to create their characters. Perhaps that was why she was the last of the four to walk up on that stage. Could you really blame her? Most of the options for the character weren’t necessarily her style, though was really anything about the game her type of scene? Not exactly. She merely settled on a teifling because her character would “look cool” and after much debate came to pick the wizard class. Though, even that came with uncertainty, because weren’t wizards usually old guys with long, white beards and pointed hats? And weren’t a warlock and a sorcerer the same thing as a wizard? Aside from that, there was no way she would be caught dead as something as brutal as a barbarian, and she certainly wouldn’t be a fighter, or especially not something as dreadful as a monk. What was with this game and boring old men in robes? It seemed like a wizard would just have to do, she could just be a charming, attractive wizard. Its needless to say, that’s how most of her character creation process went, making selections based on little information, often choosing either randomly or simply because something seemed more aesthetically pleasing. With her character complete, Layla finally stepped up to the stage, taking a moment to smile and wave at the audience, even blowing a kiss, before sitting in the last remaining of the first four chairs.

Quickly Ahana approached the stairs and bounded up them. They headed for the chair closest for the boy, feeling as if she was closer to him she’ll survive longer; he seemed confident in knowing what he was doing. They adjusted their helmet before sitting down and then pulled down the visor. The ringing in her ears came first before her brain started to pulse. Then everything went black and she didn’t feel like herself anymore.

The first thing Ahana saw inside the game, right before Ashborn’s eyes, was the solid block text:

LEVEL ONE: FIND YOUR TEAM AND ESCAPE THE MANSION

After the text disappeared, Ahana/Ashborn saw a partially lit bedroom with the double in the centre of the room. Their back to the corner, a dresser to their left and a closed door behind that on the wall opposite.

Ashborn opened his eyes to the first instruction mid-air before his eyes. Scanning the surroundings which his normal vision could see, he saw a closed door among the other things. Normally it should need a key to open or this would be too easy. And finding this key with this much illumination would be difficult. So, Ash activated his dark vision.

Layla was the most graceful of the four to take a seat, carefully placing the helmet on her head and trying not to mess up her hair. She pulled the visor down and could no longer see the audience staring her. Resting back in her Lazy-boy, her head started to tingle at first, before becoming stronger and more painful. The ringing in her ears didn’t help one bit and she was quickly relieved when it suddenly stopped; she too, was unconscious… sort of.

The first thing Layla saw inside the game, right before Kallista’s eyes, was the solid block text:

LEVEL ONE: FIND YOUR TEAM AND ESCAPE THE MANSION

After the text disappeared, Layla/Kallista saw she was in a very dimly lit small rectangular room. It was 20 by 10 feet, and going width ways were three single beds. However, she saw no door. Only a very tiny window above the middle bed that let a slither of natural daylight in.

Nothing seemed out the of the ordinary in this room. A nicely-made bronze framed double bed with floral sheets was in the room. A polished dresser to Ashborn’s left stood up against the wall and looked pretty empty. The room was 20 feet by 20 feet, with no key for the closed door on the other side of the dresser. The walls were plain, without any decoration, aside from the delicate pastel wallpaper. On the other wall opposite to Ashborn’s corner with nothing more than oil lamp attached to it, closer to the corner. Although, along the wall to Ashborn’s right, toward it’s other corner, he saw a second closed door.

Layla blinked for a moment, slightly surprised by the change in her surroundings, and looked down at the red hands of her character as she flexed her fingers. She really was inside of a game. A game that was telling her to find her team and escape a mansion. Which sounded simple enough. She looked around her, seeing three beds and a small window in the already small room, but the problem was, she did not see a door. How was she supposed to find her teammates or escape when there was no door? The light in the room was dim, but her character’s dark vision made it simple to see as she started looking around the room more closely.

The six-foot long beds only just seem to fit the width of the room and only a few inches between them. They had nothing particularly interesting about them, nothing comfortable either. The bed sheets were plain in both colour and pattern, with nothing else in, around, or under them. The walls were empty, but as Kallista turned right to look at the wall behind, she thought for a second she saw something door-shaped but then it was gone.

You’re gonna have to be specific with directions within the room, and then hope your rolls help. (wink)

The more he looked around, the more clueless he felt inside the room. First challenge, he already had no idea what to do. Great. The initial idea of finding the key was dwindling as he tried looking under the mattress of the double bed. Then noticed the second door, and approached towards it, thinking of breaking out. Ashborn faced turned his shoulder to door and with an inhale, slammed it against the door.

Nothing seemed to stand out when Layla began looking around. Everything seemed plain and insignificant about the beds and even the walls. Though, that was when she caught a glimpse of something, something that could have been a door, but in an instant, it was gone. She couldn’t be certain what she saw, or where it was. She turned, facing the wall opposite the beds, then walked over to the left side corner to examine closer.

Opal felt weird being in a completely different environment instantly. It was highly disorientating. But, she gathered her composure and tried to think of a way out. Opal first decided to try a futile attempt to change to a human-like shape so that Dreamseeker could cast the light spell. She’d grab the dagger and orb, casting light onto the dagger held in her makeshift hand. Opal was hoping it’d just be like muscle memory… or cell memory for Dreamseeker to cast the spell. She was still unsure on how this whole thing would work.

As Ashborn’s shoulder slammed into the door, he felt an ache in his muscles instantaneous. It told him that despite his be a video game, he did in fact feel everything that this new character felt and would feel. The door, however, creaked slightly but still remained closed.

Walking past two of the the beds to stand in front of the third, she examined the wall. Nothing was there, she was looking straight at the wall and saw nothing. No door. Yet, at of the corner of her right eye, she saw it again, back at the other end where she had been.

@Littlefeets - maybe think about another type of check you could do? Talk to the others. Where was it you saw something?

It seemed to be just like muscle memory, as the dagger began to glow bright and lit the room up. They could now see clearly that this was a toilet room. The round/square shape to the right was a old-fashioned toilet, nothing like the modern ones Opal was used to. And ahead of Dreamseeker, they saw that the large oblong shape was a thick wooden tall table with a chipped sink on it. The sink was half-filled with a murky watery liquid and there was moth-eaten cloth next to it.
The walls were both tiled and wood panels, and Dreamseeker even saw a closed door behind them.

@Cadborosa - I both laughed and applauded you for this. HEHE. I mean, who needs to roll perception when you can make light. HAHA

Mav decided to ignore the weird… crab thingy sitting on the counter - at least for now. Instead, he grabbed the old map off of the bed. He figured the crusty beds didn’t have much to offer. He could almost smell the matress molding. Then Hermes examined the two basins on the china cabinet. He wasn’t sure what he was looking for, but he cast Mage Hand - his first ever cantrip. A spectral floating hand appeared and he sent it to search in the murky water for… something. Anything, really. Finally, he temptively approached the metal creature on the table while remaining 20 feet away from it. He sent his newly found Mage Hand to pick up the tiny thing and restrain it so Mav could get a better look without being put in danger. He also made a mental note of where the doors were as they were most likely his next target - granted this creature wasn’t harmful to him.

A sigh of relief escaped Dreamseeker. Opal was glad it worked without a hitch, gaining more confidence in this new form. Realizing it’s a toilet room with gross sink water, Dreamseeker held their breath. Her first plan of action was to open that door. Dreamseeker turned around and started for the doorknob, then stopped. She decided to check if the door had a keyhole or a peephole to look through so they could check what was outside.

As Hermes cast his cantrip both verbally and with gestures, and plunged the spectral hand into the filled sink. It came back out empty after 20 seconds of searching, nothing was in there. He dismissed the hand, only to walk back down the room and recast it. Standing 20 feet from the table, Hermes could make out what looked like a small spider comprised of a shiny steel shell with eight spider like mechanical legs and a small dome shaped head at the top that appears to be made of glass. It’s head tilted back at him, seemly curious about what he was.
Moving the hand over to the table in order to grab the metal spider but it scuttled noisily out of the way (dex save: 20) and hunched down closer to the table surface, no longer curious about him. Acting so quickly, it was difficult to see where it came from but a small pin flew straight at Hermes and became stuck in his bicep, threw his clothing. (To hit: unnatural 20)

@Skyler2 - Time to roll initiative.
