Discussion: Is It Inhumane For Bad People To Get Severely Punished?

I’ve kind of discovered that this is such a controversy when talking about this with people IRL.

Anyway, is it inhumane/wrong of us for us to severely punish and treat really bad people (murderers, r**ists, etc…) by means of torture?

I don’t want anyone to be tortured, no matter how bad they are, unless it is absolutely necessary. I think that they should just be locked up. I’ve always thought it was kind of wrong to punish just for the sake of punishing, I guess I’ve always viewed it as just shutting bad people away from society so they don’t commit these crimes again.

I’ve kinda always thought that even though these bad people did terrible, terrible things, we shouldn’t be monsters in return and do the same to them.

That being said, I agree with the death penalty, not for everything but for serial killers. Just because of how much of a danger they are to society and what they have done. But as much as I hate what they’ve done I don’t think that they should be tortured.

Anyway, what’s your opinion on this?

Ooh… this is tough.

I don’t believe in torture but the death penalty should be necessary.

However, if they truly don’t regret what they’ve done, and continue to do so, then… perhaps it is unnecessary. In the most extreme cases.

I may not have the full story here, but the terrorist attack on London pride last Friday after the two pedestrians had disarmed the guy and they were all piling on top of him to stop him from escaping, the police finally arrived, made the pedestrians move and then shot him dead.

I doubt this is the full story but from my perspective that’s dumb. He was disarmed and pretty much powerless yet the police still killed him. When the worst that the terrorist could have done at that moment was throw himself over the bridge

I don’t think the criminal should be severely punished but they should get some form of a punishment. :purple_heart: :butterfly:

Torture is unessecesary, some people of those might be accused while they might be innocent so if you don’t kill them after you realise they are indeed innocent you can get them out of jail but you won’t be able to get them back after having them executed…

If they are guilty they can just get locked up but if the is a very serious case, kill 'em.

Torture or death should never be used as a form of punishment on my opinion. The main point of a punishment should be that the person thinks about their mistakes and changes to the better and you definitely don’t need to torture them physically or mentally for that to happen. Getting locked up is enough in my opinion. :eyes::sparkles:

What if people don’t change their actions because it’s due to their biology of their brains, keeping them locked up is never going to help them, is that humane?
I agree torture should never happen but keeping people locked up for their entire lives isn’t humane either if it’s never going to help them change

Like I don’t feel bad that Ted Bundy was sentenced to death. His mindset would never, ever change.

He was crazy for sure.

They still don’t know exactly how many people he raped, kidnapped and/or murdered.
