Discussion: The Hunger Games

Hello!

My first topic, yay!

This thread is for talking about the The Hunger Games series (and movies)! But, please beware, if you haven’t read it, this thread contains spoilers!

If you’ve read it, here are some questions you can answer (if you want to, that is).

  • What was your favorite part of the series? What was your least favorite part of the series?
  • Did you enjoy the series overall?
  • Peeta or Gale?
  • Which book was your favorite? Which one was your least favorite?
  • Have you seen the movies? In your opinion, they better than the books?
  • Do you think that Suzanne Collins is a good author?
  • What made you read the series?

My Answers {Contains Spoilers!}

What was your favorite part of the series? What was your least favorite part of the series?

My favorite part of the story is the very end, when Peeta and Katniss go back home to District 12. I also liked when Katniss and Rue became allies in the first book. My least favorite part of the series is when Peeta gets brainwashed by the Capitol and tries to kill Katniss (in Mockingjay)! I hated that part…

Did you enjoy the series overall?

I did enjoy it. I had to read the first book for my English class last semester. To be honest, before I started reading, I wasn’t that interested in it. I hadn’t even known what it was about, I just knew that it was quite popular. I assumed that it was like Harry Potter, and since I couldn’t get into Harry Potter, I wasn’t interested in it either. That all changed when I read the book, though. :joy:

Peeta or Gale?

Peeta!

Which book was your favorite? Which one was your least favorite?

I liked them all, but I think the first book was my favorite. I don’t really dislike any of them.

Have you seen the movies? In your opinion, are they better than the books?

I haven’t seen any of the movies. I want to, but I keep forgetting to watch them. :joy:

Do you think that Suzanne Collins is a good author?

I think she is, though I’ve only read The Hunger Games series out of all her books.

What made you read the series?

I had to read it for my English class last semester. If my English teacher hadn’t made us read it, I probably would have never read it! I thought it was boring (without even reading) Never doing that again, XD.

Hiya! Impressive first post, first off. Amazing detailing and awesome subject matter.

I’m not a big fan of YA novels really. They kinda blur together to me. Mortal Instruments, Maze Runner, Divergent, Hunger Games, etc. Are all a smear to me >.< I remember having fun with the original Hunger Games book when it was new though.

The world building and setting were super interesting to me, and while I didn’t really like the characterisation of Katniss very much, she’s by far not the worst protagonist in YA fiction

To answer your questions as best I can though:

  • my favourite part of the series was the introduction and initial few chapters of the actual battle royale
  • I don’t remember my least favourite part well enough >.<
  • I only read the first two books but it was enjoyable. It didn’t take weeks like some books popular at the time did
  • I only remember Gale as being hotter in the film so Gale 100%
  • of the two I read the first one I remember being much stronger, so first
  • I do not like the films at all, personally
  • She’s definitely a good author with great ideas (apart from the actual games. That’s just Battle Royale, everything else was pretty inspired)
  • it was very popular and people said it was better than Twilight. They were right, I still preferred the other books I was reading at the time though.

I hope that wasn’t too hard to get through :joy:

THAT BOOK SERIES WAS MY CHILDHOOD (maybe that’s why i turned out to be so insane). Okay so I had this weird obsession with Cato and Clove, prolly cause both of them were lowkey hot. Tbh I shipped them a lot harder than I did Katniss and Peeta UNTIL the last book and like when Katniss held on to the pearl and how she remembered peeta? That made my heart uwu omg. Okay spoilers ahead!

Summary

WHEN FINNICK DIED I ALMOST QUIT THE SERIES, same with when Rue died I balled my eyes out for like two hours omg it was so sad, they both deserved so much better. :sleepy: also Gale can smd, he sucks and my opinion will never change.

Okay that’s all for today queens!:sparkling_heart:

My favorite part was the one where Katniss sings Rue to death, or when Thresh helps Katniss or when Katniss goes to that District (8, I think?) And they start whistling.

My least favorite part… I don’t think there was a part I didn’t like. If there was, I don’t remember it.

I full on thrived in it! It’s such a favorite of mine. I still love it so much.

Peeta. Peeta. Peeta. He was always thinking of Katniss’s safety. Even when he was angry at her, like every time. And as she says in the end, She didn’t need Gale’s fire. She had enough fire of her own. She needed Peeta.

Maybe The Hunger Games was my least favorite. And mockingjay my most favorite.

Haven’t seen the movies. I am actually curious for the answer too.

I think she is a really good author, even if some of her ideas claim to be inspired from other works.

The sypnosis was so interesting. It promised me a strong, female MC and I couldn’t not read it then.

The bit when Katniss first volunteered for Prim.

The death of Finnick

Yes I did, it was well written and engaging it was really easy to empathise with Katniss.

Peeta for certain.

The first one was my favourite, usually the first in a series is kinda bad because of scene setting and character introductions but in this case it was really engaging I finished it in one day. As for least favourite, probably catching fire. I still enjoyed it though it just took me longest to read.

I’ve seen the movies and while they are not better than the books they still give a good interpretation while they left stuff out and changed things they did stick to the overall plot.

Yeah I definitely think she’s a talented author

I read the blurb and found it interesting I like dystopian futures/realities. Plus it kinda felt like everybody else had already read them and I needed to catch up :joy: I had always planned on reading them don’t think “oh she just read them because they were cool” I read them because I wanted to read them. I waited until I actually wanted to read them because if I read them prior to that it would have just been because everybody else was but in this case it was because I wanted to. If that makes sense :joy:.

My answers w/ spoilers

In the end of the first book when Katniss and Peeta were going to eat the berries.

When Prim and Rue died ;-;

Yes! I loved the series!

Gale all the way.
Personally I didn’t like Peeta just because I find him somewhat annoying

My favorite was probably the first one. Least favorite was Catching Fire

Yes, yes I have. IMO, the books are 10x better.

Yes! I think she’s an excellent author!

My friend and I were having a read-a-thin competition thing. We made a list of every single book we each wanted to read ( it was a long, long list ) and we had a competition to see who could finish the list faster. ( I won by the way. Not to brag or anything :sunglasses::black_heart: ). But she wanted to read Hunger Games, so I read it because of that.

Awesome read, Gale over Peeta any day of the week

Don’t make me choose my favourite part :sob::sob:
Yes, I enjoyed it immensely
Gale
DONT MAKE ME CHOOSE
The books are very good and so are the films, the movie of the second book was better than the book (from what I can remember.)
Suzanne Collins is an awesome author. Not my favourite, but definitely in my top 10!
Loads of people at my school were reading it

I’ve never read the hunger games. What’s it about?:white_heart:

It’s about a girl named Katniss Everdeen who takes her little sister’s place in The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a competition in which two teens are randomly chosen from each district (there are 12), and they have to fight to death. The last person alive wins. :rose::two_hearts:
