Do you believe in Extraterrestrials?

That is totally good! We may never find out how they look or one extremely weird time period we might actually find out. Not counting on it though.

It would definitely be interesting if we ever do find out.

I might get hate for this, but I really don’t. I’m a very factual person, and I don’t believe things until I see them. The universe is so big, so I do believe there is other life similar to plants. But the idea of aliens, just doesn’t seem logical to me.

I get this completely. You have a similar thought process on this matter like me and @CrazyCaliope. I would have to see it to believe it otherwise it’s just speculation at this point.

Are we making a club?

I do believe in the presence of life in exoplanets, and in that sense, yes, I do believe alien forms of life exist outside the solar system. The reason for that is very simple: based on scientific facts, the reason we have life on Earth is the presence of liquid water, which, in itself, is due to the area in which is situated in relation to the Sun. Now, the universe is a big place with many stars, and I find it possible -if not very probable- that in such a vast place, similar conditions have been fulfilled elsewhere. If I remember correctly, traces of liquid water and bacterial life has already been found on Mars, proving that life is possible on other planets.

As to the space question, Stephen Hawking has a theory that the universe is expanding, and he does have quite valid reasons to believe that. I couldn’t give them here, simply because they’re very, very technical and I cannot remember them. The Theory of Everything is a very interesting book to read for that.

Otherwise, alien life is, in my opinion, highly probable, if not certain. Whether they fly flying saucers and have been on Earth is another issue entirely ~

Given what happened in Brazil recently…

Everyone talking about how it’s very probable that alien life exists isn’t taking into account the Fermi paradox. That if alien life did exist, then we’d have come across it by now, but it’s too improbable not to exist.

There’s also the idea that we are alone in the vastness of space. That’s a terrifying concept, and it’s widely believed that the idea of extra-terrestrial life is meant to somewhat mitigate the harsh blow to the psyche that occurs when you truly accept the gravity of that. Cosmic existentiality is very, very scary

Has anyone here heard of tardigrades? They aren’t aliens of extraterrestrials, but they definitely seem like an alien to me (plus they can survive in temperatures above the boiling point of water for a strangely long time ;>;)

Here’s a video about them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXBkmLzBHZk

I feel sill asking… but what happened?

I personally do not agree with the statement saying that we would have come across it by now, though. Exoplanets are still being discovered, and alien life can also be microscopic…

It could be argued about «close» alien life, though. The closest star is Proxima Centauri, which woud take 64 000 years to reach with our current fastest space engine. And there is no viable planet in Centaurus so…

There was a UFO that the Government was covering up all traces, videos and posts of :eyes:

Well thats not shady at all

Then congratulations, we’ve already come across alien life! Bacteria has been found on other planets.

The Fermi paradox isn’t about us coming into contact with them, more so us simply having seen them by now. The probability of alien life is very high so why haven’t we found any intelligent life? If the probability is high, then it shouldn’t be rare.

There’s also the fact that there should be other intelligent life capable of finding us by now as well, going by that logic. So where is it? It’s too probable to be rare, but the lack of us having found anything leads to it being improbable. Hence - paradox

Then how do people know there was a UFO if the government cover it up? (raises a brow) Just wondering.

HAHAHAHA! Oooh… I assume people who saw it… or…?

Yeah the people who lived in the town it flew over recorded it most likely

I have heard about such discoveries, yes, but the way I remember it, those were traces of liquid water, not actual life. Though most of this dates back from high school, so do correct me if I’m wrong.

And for the intelligent life being capable of finding us, I’m not quite sure about that. That would depend on how technologically advanced a potential civilisation is, which really just amounts to historical factors… so that’s quite uncertain.

Also, the high probability is only about the fact that there would be at least one other planet placed in the same area in relation to its star as Earth is. Based on probability, it’s unlikely that we’re the only planet like that, which does not mean that it couldn’t be rare.
