It’s the equivalent of the Episode coughing animation. I use it to describe that someone is sick, but others use it in a different context.
For example:
“Everyone’s sick this week.
The kids were blasting their germs in my face all day.”
I don’t like it because I never know what it means

I use it only when I’m sad/cringing 
Yeah. I used it more often after the pandemic. People just sneeze carelessly anywhere without putting a handkerchief or a hand over their nose.
I don’t use it because I honestly don’t get when I’m supposed to use that

I hate that! 
Whenever I see someone sneezing without covering their mouth, I just look at them like… ‘Ew’.
And not only because of the pandemic. I’ve always been that way about germs.
