Peckerhead watched as Lorelai took out her compact to check her reflection. When she put it back away, she asked, “How about now?”
Starting to giggle again, Peckerhead answered, “You never stopped looking beautiful, at least to me, it was just that expression that looked silly.”
Lorelai tilted her head at an odd angle when Peckerhead mentioned Ervic and Nikko, then asked, “How? Like what kinda stuff do they do to upset you?”
Her cheeks were still soaking through to her straw but to avoid wiping them further, Peckerhead had developed a sudden fascination with a piece of straw sticking out from her glove. This was to stop her from remembering too much in-depth of what those boys did. "They… uh… threaten me. If it weren’t for my brave daddy then they would burn me, strike me, and pull me apart, littering my straw across all of Oz.”
“I mean, some people think it’s disrespectful, yeah,” Lorelai smirked about the gesture. *“No, no, there’s history behind it. Like, some birds hiss at people. You’d be okay with giving someone that upset you an aggressive, hissing bird, right?”
“Not really.” She shook her head, still fidgeting with the straw. “I’d nurture any kind of bird myself, even a hissing one, to help it recover and fly off to be free. Flying would fun, being free to fly and venture wherever you’d like.” She had gone off on a tangent as she imagined herself flying.
