Eun was conceived the year pregnancy became a trend on Mount Olympus. Every goddess was having their own child-sometimes more than one-and sometimes not even with another god, but a mortal. Eos had always kept up with the newest trends and she wasn’t about to let nine months of extra weight, feeling sick, and strange cravings stop her. She flew down to Earth and slept with the first consenting mortal she could find- a man named Derek. Derek was only twenty-three, but he was engaged to another woman who he loved very much. But Eos was so beautiful and seductive, he fell for her charms and cheated on his fiance. Derek had to break the news to the poor woman, and she was heartbroken. However, upon realizing the other woman was the goddess Eos, she agreed to proceed with the wedding and go to marriage counseling. Eos gave birth to twins- Dae-Sol and Eun-Bae. She was overjoyed, especially since the two made her extra popular among her goddess friends.
Dae and Eun were spoiled like there was no tomorrow. They were given fancy rooms in Eos’s elaborate castle, magical toys, delicious meals- the only thing they didn’t like was Eos dressing them in matching outfits each day just because they were twins. That was cringey. Unfortunately, the trend of having children faded away. Kids were seen as a burden, strange to have around, even an embarrassment. And Eos was a laughingstock since she had two that she seemed to love very much. Mortified, she cast her children down to Earth, they would be Derek’s problem now. Derek had started a new life with his wife Nerissa-they’d already had a daughter, they’d bought a house together, and they were very much in love. Nerissa was unhappy with the two additions to the family, especially since they were a constant reminder that her husband had cheated on her a bit ago. But she didn’t dare refuse a goddess of what she wanted to she reluctantly allowed the twins into her home.
Eun didn’t get along at all with her half-sister, Macy. Macy was jealous of Eun for obvious reasons, Eun was remarkably beautiful, rich, and a demi-goddess. Macy was just average-looking and always felt like she was in the shadow of her new siblings. They excelled at everything while Macy struggled to keep up. Macy and Eun shared a room, since they were both girls. Eun’s side of the room was much bigger, with more decorations, and the large walk-in closet, which was filled with clothes not even money could buy-gifts from gods and goddesses. Eun didn’t like this, she felt horrible that Macy was being treated as inferior just because she was fully mortal. She tried to be friends, but out of pride, Macy refused, instead taking every opportunity she could to sabotage and mistreat her sister, trying to make sure Eun wouldn’t know who was doing this. Eun knew, but never told anyone, she didn’t want her parents to dislike her any more than they already did.
Eun’s new parents weren’t all that fond of her either. To her father, she was a reminder of his biggest mistake, and the cause of many heated arguments between him and his wife. To her stepmother Nerissa, she was a reminder of her unfaithful husband. Nerissa despised Eun, as she was superior in almost every way to her biological daughter. She always did her best to make sure that Macy had more opportunities and material possessions than Eun. Still Eun shone more brightly, as most people knew she was a demigoddess, there were always great opportunities for her. Her mother also sent her frequent gifts, usually filled with magic or made with rare metals and jewels, unaware that the more beautiful the gifts, the more her daughter suffered.

Their relationship only got worse as Eun got older. They didn’t dare lay a finger on her, she was still Eos’s daughter. But threats and hurtful words weren’t exactly off the table. Derek and Nerissa’s marriage was in ruins. When they weren’t arguing, Nerissa was off with another man and Derek was drinking the pain away. During these times, his true nature shone. He would often tell Eun she was worthless and not good enough, comparing her to her brother. And to make matters worse, Macy and her equally jealous friends made sure school was miserable for her. Eun didn’t say anything-she didn’t think she had the right to. Compared to theirs, her problems were nothing…right?
The boys in her class had changed. It was no longer “Girls have cooties” or “Boys rule, girls drool”. Now it was “Women belong in the kitchen”, or “Go make me a sandwich.” She no longer felt pretty in her denim shorts and cold-shoulder tops, these items now made her a sl*t in the boys’-and some girl’s eyes. She began to feel insecure about who she was and what she liked, and even began to feel inferior to the opposite gender. Eun fell into a very depressed state, not speaking as often, wearing only baggy dark clothes, and spending most of her time in the bathroom, as she and Macy still shared a room. Her brother, Dae often hung out with the boys that birthed her insecurities, although he didn’t really agree with what they said. He never really said anything against it though, instead laughing it off and telling “butthurt” girls they were too sensitive.
Feeling as if she had no one to turn to, Eun let out one last cry for help to Hera, queen of the Olympian gods. She prayed for answers, for comfort. Hera heard, and taking pity on the forgotten daughter of Eos, she sent Eun a dream. Appearing as a stunning red serpent, she told Eun to be strong and stand up for herself. She told her to continue on and that it would eventually get better for her. That someday she would return to her mother and show her she was worthy of sitting at her side. That the boys in her class were projecting their insecurities on her.
From then on, Eun was a different person. She no longer cowered in the halls or hid behind bland clothes. She was Dawn Eun-Bae, she was a demigoddess. She stood up for herself, did her best in school, and even made a few friends (with the help of magic). No matter how many times she was put down, she always got back up. She became a strong advocate for gender equality, as well as LGBTQ+ and POC equality. Eun no longer felt ashamed of who she was, she was proud.
Her father wasn’t fond of this change in his daughter. He would often make sexist and homophobic remarks directed at her behind closed doors, just to spite her. Although it hurt to live with a father that didn’t accept her, Eun did her best to ignore him. Her brother also seemed slightly off-put, no longer speaking to her in the halls, instead pretending she simply didn’t exist. This also hurt, but gradually, Eun accepted it, and they began to speak less and less, and then not at all.
When the two golden packages came in the mail, Dae and Eun immediately accepted. Both their school and their “home” was no longer a place they wished to be. They set off for Once Upon a High without a word to their parents, leaving their things behind. They didn’t speak, but Eun could sense her brother was hopeful-and so was she.

After hiding who she was for years, Eun is never afraid to say what she thinks. She’s strong-willed and quite stubborn, never wanting to admit she’s wrong, even when she is. She’s very rooted in her beliefs, although she’s accepting and always open to new opinions. She also enjoys sharing her opinions with others, and educating people on her social beliefs. She isn’t very good at making friends, as she comes off as cold and too sensitive. Still, she’s a very loyal friend who can keep secrets and will always have your back. Eun is very romantic, although she’s never been in a relationship before. Secretly, she’s afraid to be judged by a potential partner, or to be dragged down by someone else. Eun is picky, and it would take a lot to win her heart. In her ideal relationship, she would want her partner to see her as their equal and closest friend. She and her twin brother, Dae, can read each other’s expressions pretty well, although since they don’t talk as often as they used to, it’s never perfect.
