Often times, movies and tv shows will hire members of the general public to serve as “extras”. In basic terms, an extra is someone who’s there to fill background space. They usually don’t speak and are just there to provide the look of a busy street, crowd, etc. Have you ever been an extra in a film or tv show?

No. And thank God for that because I don’t want a crazy relative or friend (I have no idea about) pestering me to the ends of the earth and be like “I SAW YOU THERE OMG ARE YOU LIKE FAME?!”

Some of my friends have and it’s so cool 
I was! It was a telenovela that someone I knew worked on, so I asked him if I could be an extra. It was a period drama, so I was excited about getting to wear an 1800s-style dress. The problem was that he arranged for a friend of his to drive me and my mom to the place where the telenovela was being filmed, but that guy cancelled at the last minute, so we had to take a taxi (I didn’t drive at the time) and since we were late, all the good dresses were already taken. So, I had to dress up as a villager with a more simple dress. It was still fun, and people who were watching the show even commented how all the townspeople were so expressive.
