Health & Beauty: Let's talk about make up

Since there isn’t a section for health & beauty (that’s if we get 15+ threads about health & beauty), what are your favourite brands of make up and what type of make up do you like? Are you allergic to certain make up products?

Do you prefer high end or drugstore brand

  • High End Brands
  • Drugstore Brands (I know I’m British but this is applicable)

Editing: I’m going to add my two cents

Personally, I like drugstore more because the quality is very good. Superdrug (if you’re foreign, it’s a British drugstore where they sell essentials) is one of the best drugstores in the UK as you can get a lot of great offers on make up. Like they have pretty famous brands such as Make Up Revolution, Make Up Academy, Maybelline, Rimmel, Revlon, L’Oreal, NYX, E.L.F and so on. But sometimes, I get High End ones as a present like the Urban Decay electric palette. The colours are very pretty!

I like wearing make up but I only just wear eyeshadow (depending on the colour of my outfit), black gel eyeliner and mascara. The only times I don’t wear makeup are:

  • When I am at home of course

  • Shower

  • At the gym

  • Cooking

  • When I can’t be bothered in general

I do have a makeup collection (I will do a thread where I ask you to show me your make up collection in the future).

Hmmm I can’t decide as it depends on the quality. Drugstore makeup are best quality compared to the ones you get at a £1 shop or Primark.

Make up is definitely art. I’ll stop there!

I was in between answers on a few of the polls above. I answered that I don’t like wearing makeup but that’s not entirely true. I like wearing makeup sometimes (love a good red lipstick) but I don’t like that it feels sort of required as a female. Like if you don’t wear concealer under your eyes and someone tells you that you look tired, yes they’re a jerk but there’s a lot of pressure to be like perfect in this world and makeup is kind of a way to achieve that perfection.

Besides the whole beauty standards things, there’s also a lot of terrible stuff that goes on it the cosmetics industry. This includes: animal testing, using toxic chemicals in makeup (lead can be found in a lot of lipsticks, actually) and exploiting child labor in India for shimmering powders.

I enjoy skincare more than makeup tbh because it’s relaxing and done at home and more for yourself (though some people do put on makeup just to stay home and that’s valid, but not me). I absolutely love Korean skincare brands that have become more available in the west and they are not as expensive and I think they compete with more high end stuff. I also love French pharmacy products. There’s an app called Yuka that lets you scan barcodes and see if there are any harmful or potentially harmful chemicals in products you want to buy, which is sadly needed as regulations aren’t as strict as they need to be, in my opinion.

We could totally make this happen.

Anyways, I’m not a huge make up user. The only things I really use are mascara and some light lip gloss. Mostly because my lips are really pale and look really…weird, and I have short eyelashes.

I do not know anything about makeup, I mean I like what I look like without it already, not saying that you wear makeup to look prettier or anything, people have different reasons, but I don’t really have a reason to and idk how to do it. I would wear lipstick but my lips are naturally red so… And I have long eye lashes so I don’t really think I’d need to wear eye liner, and my face is pretty clear so…

I used to wear it practically daily when I went to work, but now I live in a humid country (Mexico) and work from home so I only wear it if I’m going out for a special occasion. I wore it a little more when I went back to Australia, but I never wear it to the gym and that’s really the only place I actually go lol.

I had a huge collection when I lived in Australia, but only brought some of it with me when I moved to Canada and stuck to the basics. I tend to have more high end brands and that started when I was younger- I had trouble finding a foundation that matched my skin in the cheaper brands and the best colour match I’ve ever found has been at Chanel. It sort of escalated from there. In my early twenties, while at uni, I spent thousands on makeup lol. But now I have a very simple collection.

Glad I’m not the only gym lover here  but yeah, wearing make-up to the gym is definitely not a good idea as you would look like you’re auditioning for House Of Wax :rofl::joy:

I like makeup. Although I look ridiculous with it :sparkling_heart:

I don’t like to wear make up.
I tried wearing make up once, but only because a friend pressured me into allowing her to apply some of hers to my face…
It just felt as if I wasn’t myself anymore and although she only applied a little bit of it, it felt like I was carrying tons of additional weight around with me.
I know that there are people who love to wear it, but it’s just not for me. :woman_shrugging:

When I was around 11 years old, I hated makeup not going to lie. It’s just that I wanted to enjoy my childhood without wearing all of that but unfortunately, I felt pressured by relatives and girls at school to wear them even though I wanted to wait til I was like around 15-16 years old.

The pressure was too much for me that it cause me a lot of anger at that age. I remember there was a conversation with my parents about make up and dad acted like I was the only girl who doesn’t wear make up. I was like,"I’m pretty sure there are a lot of girls my age that don’t like make-up. " Mind you, I was 13 years old that time and I only didn’t wear make up because of the fact that I was feeling under pressure. Girls can be so ruthless I tell you.

It was actually the opposite case for me. My parents and most of my friends didn’t want me to wear make up, because I was too young in their opinion (I was around 12?).
The only person who wanted me to wear make up was this one friend. I cut of my contact to her by now, because that wasn’t the only thing she wanted me to do. (That’s a story for another time…)
Most of the people in my country actually think that it’s ridiculous for 11-15 year-olds to wear make up and I mostly agree with them. We had people talk behind each other backs because of make up, so I think that girls shouldn’t get involved with it at a young age.

Oh, it’s kinda relatable to me, my grandma says that i should wear more dresses and skirts because that’s what girls should wear.

But you do you, people have different opinions like “You should wear more makeup” or “don’t wear too much makeup” so ignore them and do what YOU feel comfortable with.

If you don’t feel comfortable in wearing dresses and skirts, that’s none of her business. I can’t stand skirts because of the trauma I went through when I wore skirts in school; basically girls used to randomly lift my skirt up for no reason (this also includes the times that I was on my period). I just hate skirts because I don’t like the idea of the wind blowing it up so people can see my underwear (that also includes me wearing tights or leggings). I do like dresses but there are certain types of dresses I can’t stand and that is bandage dresses.

Exactly! People shouldn’t be forcing their opinions onto you as it’s your face, your choice. Simple!

Make up is really fun when your using it for the right reasons, don’t use it if you feel like you need it, use it cause it love it. Always remember that make up is used to enhance your natural beauty, not give you a whole new face.
