So the weekly theme this week is intelligence so here is an RP-related thread about it
Yes so when you write your character to be intelligent, or perhaps simply smarter than the average person, how do you show that in the RP? What in portraying your intelligent characters do you not do while portraying your… well… dumber ones? Is speech different, their actions? Idk broskis elaborate
I’d say if I were making an intelligent character, I’d convey it in their thoughts. For example, if I wanted to make them observant, I’d show that in my posts and go more in depth with their thought process. And in dialogue, I’d show how they analyzed the other party’s words.
Daniel’s just in a whole category of his own. He is a genius - but I think what I’ve focused on with him is trying to show that he doesn’t know how to handle particular situations. He has a high IQ but a very low EQ which is why he does things like put someone who p-ssed him off into Juvie for two months instead of just dealing with it like a normal human being.
Part of it is already in selecting their interests. And during the actual RP the way they structure their sentences also can be a good way to show it. But not every intelligent person is the same, and that’s the same for RP characters. So while one might have it in the way they think, another one’s intelligence can be shown by for example taking initiative to solve a certain problem.
If I’d portray intelligence, I’d mostly interpret (?) it through their thoughts. I give emphasis to it through their thoughts. That’s importaint in my opinion because the inner mind really says a lot about your character; the reflection is just- or maybe when I give this small flashback in between a post. Like a hint about what they did that should be able to tell about the character’s intelligence.
As for actions, that actually depends on the exterior personality, so I always depend om the thoughts.
