Generally speaking there are two sexes (male and female), but there can also be people born with characteristics of both, this is called intersex (for example, someone who’s born with female genitalia, but has XY chromosomes). Gender is completely up to the individual. Some people identify with their biological sex, which is called cisgender, others identify as the opposite sex, transgender, and then others don’t identify with either, which is when you get people like me who identify outside the gender binary (male and female). I identify as non-binary, but there’s so many other gender identities outside the gender binary.
As far as I know humans have 2 genders and countless mental disorders, exception (kind of) is the intersex state, that is an exception to the rule.
I really don’t mind how many genders there are, I personally grew up being told there was only two genders and it kinda hard to change that mindset, since I had it for so long. I also saw jokes on the internet saying that if there was more than two gender than that person could be a helicopter, and I’m like I kinda want to be a helicopter
I understand. When I was a kid, we didnt really had those convos, just basic biology classes. But as I grew up there’s new information incoming, that has to be analyzed, but I personally didn’t find it convincing. So there’s that.
True. Now schools have health classes that talk more about genders, drugs, alcohol and other stuff that most people had to learn themselves.
Gender and sex are different. Gender is the social aspect and sex is the physical. So as many genders as society creates
There are as many genders as there are people who identify as them, because gender isn’t a real thing that can be measured empirically. It’s a societal construct
Physical sex can be measured empirically, and the current scientific consesus is that sex isn’t a binary between two options, it’s a bi-modal spectrum between male and female with space in the middle where intersex people fall
Gender makes no sense to me whatsoever. I don’t understand why anyone should be forced into something so rigid. I don’t identify as a woman. I identify as Shannii. I just so happen to be female biologically. I guess that makes me nonbinary, huh?
Looks like this thread is going to get heated up
I’ll take this out of context cause I find it true.
Even in context it’s still true You can’t measure gender, lol
Accidentally press Reply.
Anyway it’s shouldn’t turn into a argument since it’s just people discussing there opinions.
I think that there was only two genders because there wasn’t as much change happening a long time ago then it is now. Everyone is realizing that they don’t feel like everyone else. The world is changing and people are changing too. Words are also changing as well, so gender isn’t as it was a long time ago.
I IDENTIFY AS MEGHAN>
bam, new gender was just created
I believe that there’s only 2 genders.
Oh okay
Well I still believe that there are only two genders but I’ll shut up now in case it turns into some huge debate.
The ‘gender binary’ hasn’t always been the only model. There have been civilisations for millennia that expressed gender in vastly different ways. Some cultures revered intersex people as gods, for instance. Some cultures have three or more set genders in their culture. This isn’t new by any stretch. And it hasn’t been new scientifically for a very long time. Decades
Like I can’t measure fairy dust amount in Eastern Europe. Cause it doesnt exist
