How many reads have you gained from just promotion?

I’m always wondering how effective promoting really is, so let’s share our experiences here!

How many reads or general exposure have you gained from just promotion?
How did you promote your story?

I have published various stories on Episode, as I find it easier to write there, and I enjoy coding very much. When I published my last story, I went to all the Promote Your Story threads on the EF, and I would promote my story literally everywhere. I also promoted it on Instagram, from my episode account, and some people who read it posted screenshots on Instagram too. I had about 13 reads on my story before promoting it, and after promoting it I think I reached about 400-500. I am a small writer, so please don’t judge  But I am really proud it reached some satisfying amount of readers in very little time. I also got a bunch of fanmail, which was really nice. Many people mentioned that they first saw it on a promoting thread on the EF, and that’s why they read it. So I think that promoting your story certainly can get you some readers, but make sure to promote it correctly, otherwise you will come of as rude and annoying.

I post on tapas and wattpad (smaller episodes on tapas and full chapters on wattpad). I use tapas more because it’s more engaging. I went in the forums to promote and in like a week I gained 20 subs and I bunch of likes. I got one sub so far from here (joined yesterday). And my views have gone up tremendously

Hmmm…that makes me think we should get more people here to sign up on Tapas and get to read to some stories!

We should! We can try and do tapas recommendations or something to try and get people to check stuff out :eyes:

Yes! I’ve seen come familiar faces here from the tapas forums. I actually learned about this forum from there  and it could help gain visibility for others who don’t already post there

Not many… a few people asked me if I wanted to do R4Rs, and a few people did click on my story link that I posted on the promotion threads, but most of my reads came from reviews I requested—many reviewers became faithful readers— and being on a shelf.

I’m guessing that I got most of my reads from promotion, since finding stories that aren’t promoted anywhere can be really tricky

Well, I would say a majority of my reads came from promotion. I have 93 reads so far. Only about a quarter of them were actually from reviews. I’m trying to work on promoting more often. Right now, @RainbowCat is reviewing my story on Episode to help me out as well.

How about all of you?

(shrug) I’m not sure.

Yeah, I’m not really that worried about my reads.

Me neither. I write for me.

I’m not sure yet, but I’m releasing my story tomorrow.
I do want my story to be read, but what matters more are the comments. I love hearing other people’s opinions, suggestions (but suggestions to improve my story, not stuff like ‘Can we have another LI??’ ‘Can I change the MC’s name?’), and being able to discuss my story with others.
