Gaston cleared his throat and sipped some of his coffee. Only now did he remember that it was criminally sweet. He winced and put the cup farther away, not to make the same mistake.

As he looked away, he did not notice Gaston pushing the cup very far away from him with resentment. And when he turned back to take a sip of his drink-he sipped from Gaston’s cup instead. As they both had the same drink, he did not notice at first. Until he saw his real cup only inches away. His pupils grew tiny, and his mouth dropped open in horror. A red spread across his cheeks as he tried to comprehend what he had done.

Hearing the clicking of porcelain, Gaston looked up with interest. Maybe his companion concluded that this awful coffee suited his taste buds after all. Whatever it was, Gaston preferred it over staring at the phone incessantly. “LeFou, what are you-” Gaston started… only now noticing that the man sitting across from him took a sip of his coffee. Gaston’s face froze. He didn’t know how to react to what had just happened before his very eyes. LeFou turned beet red, and terror was almost pouring out of his little pupils. The embarrassment had obviously has been following him since he was a child. But LeFou was always doing something stupid. The curse of the surname, probably.

Gaston grunted. “Is this some absurd joke?” he asked, arching an eyebrow. Gaston didn’t like to not understand something. His companion’s behavior was incomprehensible to him, and it made his blood boil even harder. The man wondered why LeFou just took a sip from Gaston’s cup. Perhaps he was making fun of him? He must have found Gaston accidentally taking another sip of that terrible drink hilarious. The man snorted aggressively. “Do you find my behavior funny?” he revealed his thoughts. After all, Gaston rarely kept anything for himself. Especially at times when he felt his ego and impeccable reputation were being attacked by pathetic jealousy.

“LeFou, what are you-” A short warning came right before the coffee met his lips, but it was much too late. Gaston did not finish his sentence, his mouth hanging open. “Is this some absurd joke?” Came after a grunt, and was partnered with the raise of a bushy eyebrow. Anyone could tell the guy was absolutely mortified. His eyes more white than brown, his mouth hanging open awkwardly, almost frozen as he wondered whether to swallow the coffee, or let it stay sizzling in his mouth. “Do you find my behavior funny?” LeFou’s eyes grew impossibly wider. “No! No, of course not! It was merely an accident!” He blurted out, stammering as he did so. He found the ability to swallow had returned, and he quickly did so, then set the cup onto the table.

LeFou excused himself nervously as if his life depended on his words. Gaston’s face softened. He couldn’t be angry with his friend. He grunted deliberately. He brought the cup closer to him again to avoid repetition of the uncomfortable situation. He didn’t want the guests watching them perceive it in a provident manner.

Gaston picked up the cup, lifting it in a gesture of toast. Before anyone could stop him, he put a mug to his mouth, taking a long sip. Only now did it enlighten him. He held the drink in his mouth, and the previous situation was recreated before his eyes. Gaston swallowed in horror… at the same time causing the coffee and the specks of his friend’s saliva to flow down his throat, right into his stomach. Gaston frowned, biting his tongue with even more disgust than before.

“For heaven’s sake.” He muttered tensely.
