“Maybe a bit but we’re not gonna talk about that.”
Adeline gave him an unimpressed look. Leo was always one to try to dodge the more serious situations, even when said situations called for at least the tiniest bit of dedication.
His answer left her silent for a moment, pondering on what she knew. Leo was broken. And Adeline had walked in at a time where she’d somehow tried to magically fix that. She lost herself trying to find him. And that wasn’t worth it, no matter how much she felt for him. He stepped closer to her and she backed herself into the railing of the docks, keeping her eyes on his curiously. If there was something else she learned, they could both be manipulative.
“And you can hate me as much as you want, I do deserve it.”
“Good,” she quickly responded, tilting her chin up as he continued speaking.
“So everything you want to say to me just do it now.”
She stared at him, face serious but unmoving as she took in his features.
She could tell him how much she wanted to kick him to some terrible foreign country. She could tell him to go step on a billion needles and maybe she’d consider forgiveness. She could tell him about how much it hurt to find out he’d slept with someone else because she wasn’t good enough…she could tell him…But what difference would it make?
She paused, looking the other way before nodding.
Though she quickly grimaced when she saw Preston heading over, confusion apparent on his face when be realized she was with another guy. She growled, her pride hurt that she was even about to do what she was about to do. Going over to Leo, she linked her arm through his.
“We don’t have to see each other ever again or talk to each other ever again if you just get me out of this situation. You owe me that much.” She muttered, looking around frantically.
She spotted her escape route and gave a slight smirk. A small row boat who someone had evidently been confident would be left alone was tied to the docks, swaying back and forth temptingly.
“Adeline? What’s going on?”
She would have gone alone. But bringing a guy with her as she rowed away from Preston? Well. He’d never bother her again and her mother would be forced to leave her alone.
“Listen, Pres…” she stated slowly, flicking her eyes over to the boat discreetly so Leo would see. “I just…really don’t see this working out.”
“We’re completely compatible! We like the same color, and the same pizza…” He stated, walking confidently closer. “What are you talking about?”
Her lips tightened and she cleared her throat before yanking her shirt off and chucking it at Preston’s face.
“DISTRACTION!” She shouted obviously before running past Leo and straight to the boat. “Come on you idiot! Help me!”
Preston screamed and amazingly struggled to pull away the shirt from his eyes.
“ADELINE! YOU KNOW I DONT LIKE THE DARK!”
