Mental health in stories

I knew she was mute, I didn’t know why. The story is super long too

Same and I’m loving it

Yeah, it’s long af! Well she does get flashbacks & nightmares and her room mate is horrible, I want to kick her butt!!

But yeah, the story is a lot better in LL as I can take the story more seriously than in INK. LL builds more character.

Also, if you start talking about Speak in pm, can you add me as well, please?

Right.

So my story will have mental health topics but I’ll have to make sure I don’t glorify it or be ignorant about these things. I’ll have to decide to bring up topics that I know of since I have them myself such as:

  • Bulimia
  • Complex PTSD
  • Autism
  • Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder

But we’ll see how I write it out.

Ptsd is so hard cope with in real life. It is difficult for the person going through it and those around them. Stories with it in tick me off when it’s badly written and not well researched. Ptsd is know for flashbacks but there is more to it than that.

I stop reading the story if it’s got badly written stuff about ptsd.

autism

The first time I ever came across autism properly was in an episode story, when I was way younger lol.

So basically I believed everything that the author said in the story about autism-I had no reason not to because the story seemed genuine- and so it really frucked up what I thought autism was

I will have that in my story… I’ll have to do LOADS of research and maybe ask you about it, if it’s ok with you…

List of stories that protray mental illness great

You can add Wattpad, Episode, or paperback stories! Any that portrays mental illness in a realistic way.

Finding perfect by Elly Swartz
About a girl with OCD who is trying to make her mom come back from a long business trip
After Zero by Christina Collins
About a girl who marks her words in tallies. To her, zero tallies are the best. She gets offered by her grandmother one day to go live with her brothers instead of her mother, whom she does not like.
