Theo listened as the man, Juan, praised his uncle’s work. There was a slight frown on his face, mostly from curiosity. He wondered what kind of unique vision his uncle could possibly have when he’s so… privileged…He has people do everything for him. Theo started thinking maybe he should just crack open one of his uncle’s books soon just to see what the fuss was about but he wondered why he was starting to care about this stranger’s opinion about his uncle.
Theo’s demeanor was of embarrassment after he had let his emotions show, but he quickly composed himself. The man seemed to be reassuring him that he could get some help with his work. He seemed very persuasive, non threatening and calm. His demeanor was one that he had never encountered when someone gave him advice…or criticism…usually he would say no and leave it at that but wondered if he should entertain it a bit. He scratched the back of his neck while looking at the ground. “I’ve never thought I needed help to do those things, I mean maybe I do I don’t know…I’m a perfectionist” He stopped mid sentence, feeling that he was saying too much about himself, but one more thought escaped him. maybe you could help me.
Immediately he wanted to get away from Juan and started walking in the direction of the garden that the other maids were leading everyone to, and a maid quickly followed after him and Juan, making sure they got to their destination. There was a small part of him that wanted the man to keep talking to him even though he didn’t know why. He mostly wanted to get away from him because he felt that he would become more and more embarrassed the more he continued talking.
Theo stood at the table in the garden where the finger foods were. He looked at the maze in the other direction of the garden. “Well that doesn’t look very safe…” He mumbled. He continued looking down at the food in front of him, not wanting to meet the man’s eyes just in case he ended up standing in front of him. why do we have to go in the garden first? He wondered. Theo just wanted to go to his room and explore the house.
