So, one of my background characters is inspired by a rl friend of mine. She wears a headscarf but almost never long sleeves, just over the shoulder, since she kinda shaped her religion in her own way… Now I showed one scene with her character involved on the episode forums and I right away got someone telling me that the characters should wear long sleeves. I don’t know how to solve this situation since I am scared more people will give me that kind of comments, and I noticed I lost motivation to write just because this situation is rather complicated… I mean I don’t want people to feel like I am being disrespectful while I just show a realistic, modern and strong moslim character… I thought about writing her background story so perhaps people understand, but it’s so not matching with the rest of the story since the character is just a background character with barely any scenes in the story…
I’ll tag the people who can help you with that:
@PensiveShadow, @liyahsdiamond
Note: it’s “Muslim”, not “moslim”.
Thanks for the tags! Ohh, yeah I just noticed… Dutch auto correct sucks on an English forum
We do not wear over the shoulder tops with Hijabs. We wear elbow length sleeves to long sleeved with Hijabs. I don’t know who your friend is but that is high inappropriate to wear with a Hijab.
(Short sleeves too but only if it’s not to the shoulder)
Yeah I know it’s really not common at all, and I do realize people find it inappropriate… She usually wears something that’s like one third covering the arm, so a little shorter than elbow… But I guess I will take the character out because I feel like too many people find it inappropriate even if I would explain her background story…
You don’t need to take her out, just dress her correctly.
Don’t make it complicated. It’s an easy fix.
Yeah but if it’s based on my rl friend I don’t want to make her someone she isn’t, I don’t feel comfortable with that, so then I rather choose to replace it with another character
Okay.
Is that all?
Yeah, thanks for replying!
