I find it so annoying when people refuse to listen to a song because it’s popular or “average.”
I hate when people will dislike a music piece just because it is new or popular. Songs that are mainstream can be good, and songs that are underground can be bad.
Alright so here’s what happened recently and this is happening from the Neffex Nation so I think it’s time to call out some people.
On Instagram, there was some stupid fangirl who leaked a girlfriend of Cameron Wales’ Instagram account and now the fangirls are screeching because they found out that he has a girlfriend. Cameron Wales wanted to keep his personal life completely private yet these fangirls disrespected him and his girlfriend. I came across one of the fangirls (yes this one fangirl I did call out recently) made an IG story with a selfie, looking miserable after finding out that Cameron Wales has a girlfriend and I’m like rolling my eyes at her because at the end of the day, he will never be with her because he’s happy with his current girlfriend.
I’m sick of fangirls getting absolutely mad about band members or musicians having a love life, let them be happy. Honestly, it feels like crazy KPOP fans are born again! facepalm
Don’t worry, I know not all KPOP fans are insane but there are a lot of them that are absolutely extreme.
Let’s be real here, a band member or musician and a fan dating each other wouldn’t really work out.
Okay so recently, an annoying Neffex fangirl (not the one that goes photoshopping Cameron Wales into her photos) kept ranting to me about how the girlfriend of Cameron Wales is no good for her and other stupid things. I was like, “Sis, don’t drag me into your nonsense. Cameron is happy with Melanie, so deal with it!”
Honestly, it’s so frustrating when fangirls go on and on about their favourite band member having a love life. Like let them be!!
I actually like the song Savage Love by Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685.
When you’re at a party or get-together with friends or neighbors and you get the opportunity to sing karaoke, it just isn’t as fun when no one knows the song you’re singing or even listens to the same music as you do.
THIS
Some people get so mad if you don’t like a song, outfit, or basically anything an artist says or does. You can like an artist without worshipping them.
I don’t know much about Bring Me The Horizon, but why are people comparing them to Post Malone if they are two different styles?
Ughh I hate it when people get offended over that. You’re allowed to dislike something, doesn’t mean you’re a bad person.
Too many gatekeepers in every community!
I hate it when I feel the need to justify me liking a certain band/artist/song just because they aren’t “rock” or whatever, like no, I don’t just listen to rock and metal and I really don’t like that assumption.
For example when watching TwentyOne Pilots on TV my parents were like “oh I thought you were into rock/metal” I don’t just listen to that, I’d be veryyyy pretentious if I said I did.
Whenever I wanna show a song to somebody I always feel the need to say “I really like this song, it isn’t the ‘usual’ style I go for but I do really like it” but tbh I just say that so people don’t make comments like “tHiS iSn’T rOcK.”
Although that may have only happened a few times it’s stuck with me, so now I feel the need to justify everything I listen to.
I think they collaborated or there was rumours of a collaboration actually after looking it up, it seems like those are just rumours but it did make people think it was really gonna happen and that’s when the gatekeepers came out.
I hate hate hate it when people gatekeep music like whyyyy just let me listen to what I want
no, sweater weather is not only for bi people, as a bi person anyone is allowed to listen to it
It’s so freaking stupid! That reminds me, I have posted a comment on the Metal Elitist Rant thread as there is something new to rant about. More gatekeepers!
Ugh, I hate gatekeepers! Like who cares if you like the artist/band at whatever year. If you started liking Backstreet Boys in 2018, doesn’t matter.
Not sure who is Sweater Weather but damn, it’s silly when people like to say stupid things like “this is for gay/bi/straight people”. Stop conflating sexual orientation with hobbies & interests.
This sounds biased as hell but there’s literally no reason to dislike Michael Jackson. If his music isn’t your taste, that’s fine, but to dislike the person… how and why? He was literally a sweetheart.
Same thing with Nicki Minaj, no reason to dislike her as a person. You can dislike her actions but to dislike her as a person seems strange to me.
Yeah, it’s disgusting that she bailed her brother out of jail for a very heinous crime. Shame on her for that!
That was something I really disagreed with and I don’t support that at all. Some Barbz might, not me tho.
I think I may have said this before but I have changed my opinion on people wearing shirts of bands they don’t know
My previous opinion was actually somewhat elitist and gatekeepery which I actually despise so now I’m pretty much gonna say that people can wear whatever they want, if you don’t know the band on your shirt or even if the design on your shirt is a band thing then I don’t really care.
I see alot of people talk about how alt people always got given s*it in school because of what they’re wearing but frankly doesn’t that mean that seeing “popular” celebrities and people wearing metal merch may make people think “oh well these guys are wearing it so maybe we shouldn’t be such a##holes”
And I know that to some people they don’t want people to jump onto a subgenre that they escaped into but everybody has their own personal experience with music and with the scene so the meaning it has for you will never change, the scene will never stop being a place you escaped into when you were feeling alone or hurting. People wearing the clothes doesn’t suddenly take away your experience.
So I’m just going to say now, there is nothing wrong with wearing shirts of bands you don’t know
Same here, I realised that it makes us hypocritical in that sense.
I’m not a huge fan of Justin Bieber but boy, I felt bad for him when he got a lot of s**t for wearing a Metallica shirt by metal elitists. Don’t forget they even attacked Lil Wayne for playing the guitar, what’s wrong with that? So what Lil Wayne is into playing the guitar or skateboarding, I think that’s cool.
Like with a Jack Daniel shirt, you don’t have to drink it to wear the merch.
Pop is a made up genre and wait for it…so is emo
But wait hear me out!
As we all know, I’m emo af and it’s definitely something that’s real to me and a whole lot of other people. I’m not saying emo isn’t real, I’m saying the genre isn’t. As a music based subculture though what are the requirements to be emo? Because this causes alot of division:
- Does it have to be heavy?
Well, no, elitists will cry over this and say they don’t like all this “new emo” (MGK, Yungblud) but emo music has often presented itself as not being heavy since before Yungblud and MGK, for example rock pop, acoustic rock and pop punk are often accepted into emo’s playlists it’s really just about preferences and over time rap and hip hop influences have entered it. In terms of the heavy stuff you get metal genres thrown in there too and gradually certain bands get pinned the emo label, some bands like this, some reject it.
Now why does this mean “emo” is made up, well it’s more of an umbrella term for a whole bunch of genres as opposed to being a genre itself and just about anything can be given the emo label which is why gatekeepers and elitists make virtually no sense. You may see people say emotional hardcore was a genre which it was, a very shortlived and hyped up genre which isn’t as good as elitists think therefore it got incorporated into the emo umbrella but I’m pretty sure that’s where the term “emo” comes from.
- what does this have to do with pop?
Well pop isn’t real either, it changes alot because pop is just short for “popular” and over time because pop seems to be stuck where it’s at now, if artists use elements from what’s considered pop music today into whatever style they usually use, it’ll get labeled as “pop [insert genre]” but if you go back to the 70’s/80’s/90’s you’ll understand that pop in those times was far different to how it is now.
Not to mention the fact artists often get alot of negative responses from people who don’t like when certain bands start adding “pop” to their music, my dudes, it’s a made up genre and art is art, if artists don’t want to keep doing the same thing and they instead wanna experiment then that’s fine. It bothers me so much when artists get called sell outs just because people don’t understand that fencing off genres of music boxes artists in and minimises any kind of creativity or evolution in music.
Therefore hating on people who listen to pop is something that makes as little sense to me as gatekeepers in the emo community. The moment people realise you can’t gatekeep umbrella terms and that music can be enjoyed by everyone and not just select groups, I think things will become less toxic.
wait what-
Imagine if
Instead of alt
It was called unpop
