Admist the darkness of grief and sadness that still hung over the town, the fundraiser unfolded beneath warm lights and perfectly arranged tables. People arrived in clusters, some with intentions of support and genuine celebration of Charlotte’s life, some with tact, with the need to be seen at the right place at the right time. As it had been in her life, there was no getting away from Charlotte; she was in the projected photos, the careful speeches, and the darkest truths - that would soon be flowing as the drinks did.
