I’m uhh writing a song on the piano and so far I have the melody. Can’t figure out (at least rn) how to exactly transfer it to sheet music but I found a program for it so I’ll be working on it tomorrow lol. Then it’ll be easier to memorize the song and figure out the left hand notes. First time writing songs so I’ll put the sheet music up or the sound of it for critique lol. I can read sheet music but um don’t know everything about it and so that’ll be a challenge.

I don’t really write them, they are more just in my head. I just write down lyrics and try singing them. I don’t start with the lyrics or with the melody, both just pops into my head at the same time. I’ve tried to write down the melody but I just don’t like it  I prefer to keep the songs in my head.

Yes, a lot, and I don’t even know why I do that

I did Music GSCE, and for that I had to write 2 pieces of music. And I decided to make it difficult for myself by choosing genres of music that BOTH would need lyrics (musical theatre and contemporary folk). I had finished writing both pieces (melody and accompaniment) before I even THOUGHT about writing lyrics. I remember that for both of them, I needed a lyric given to me to get me writing the rest.

I remember for the musical theatre one, I asked someone in my class to have a try at writing the lyrics for me. We both admitted they weren’t great, but the first line she had written I kept, and that line gave me ideas for … literally the whole song.

Then with my folk song, I had postponed writing lyrics for so long, and then for a section in the middle, I put a lyric from Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi in it (ā€˜I tend to close my eyes when it hurts’), and then suddenly so many more lyrics came into my head.

Since then, I haven’t really tried writing songs. But, now I know, I need a lyric to start with to be able to do a whole song.

Ooooh, that’s cool!

I’m trying to write a musical but I’m not good at composing more advanced melodies… sadly.

Oh my gosh that sounds super cool and super fun! I agree. Once you get a little lyric it can kinda get the whole song. :ok_hand:t2: you should continue writing!

I’m interested in songwriting, but I’m absolutely terrible at doing it

Lyrics and melodies are both really hard for me, so it’d be something I’d have to work incredibly hard on
