Songs you can relate to on a spiritual level

What are the songs you can really relate to?

I’ll go first:

Reason: Perfectly sums up what it’s like to live in a poorer part of London.
Favourite lyric(s): “On these streets, these streets, in the dark we glow. On these streets, these streets, we’re high when it’s low”

Reason: When it came out everyone I knew my age including myself jammed to it but I don’t think we fully got it. Listening to this now feels different because I’m like “Oh! I actually have responsibilities now!”. It’s one of those songs that gets sadder the older you get.
Favourite lyric(s): “I was told when I get older all my fears would shrink, but now I’m insecure and I care what people think” I miss having clear skin when I was 4

Reason: Toxic friendships (yayyy!). This song basically helped me come to terms with that you shouldn’t have to beg to be appreciated by other people. Also this song is partially the reason why I’m now a huge AURORA stan.
Favoutite lyric: “I went too far when I was begging on my knees, when I cut my hands, so you could stand and watch me bleed” (I could just add the whole song in this section tbh)

Reason: Taught me to be myself even if other people want me to change to meet their personal standards.
Favourite lyric(s): “I just wanna be pure, you know I’m terrible at putting up a show”

Reason: Perfectly captures the Black-British struggle.
Favourite lyric(s): “Loud in our laughter, silent in our suffering.”

Reason: Sometimes it feels good to just cry and let out your emotions.
Favourite lyric(s): “Like a bird in the night, your emotions deserves to be freed”

Name: The Times They Are A-Changin’
Reason: When you grow up surrounded by close-minded people, this song becomes your anthem
Favourite lyric(s):
"Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin’
Please get out of the new one
If you can’t lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin’ "

“What A Broken Heart Can Do” by Takako Mamiya

Reason: It perfectly describes my depression, seeing everyone around you happy while you’re lonely. It also kinda describes me.

Favourite lyrics:
I’m just a freak at the sideshow
Where all the people can look at me
Between the strong man and the tattooed lady
I’m here to look at, not to see

I’ve seen the hard looks and the empty stares
I’ve heard the sighs and silent screams
I’ve felt the pain that comes from no one caring
Know the ache of your worst dreams

That’s what a broken heart can do
It’s why the angels ignore me
That’s what a broken heart can do
There is no wire or strings
I’ve lost everything
Don’t be sure
That it won’t happen to you

“Plastic Love” by Mariya Takeuchi

Reason: It’s amazing and the song sounds upbeat but it’s actually quite sad…

Favourite lyrics:
Don’t seriously fall in love with someone like me
Love is just a game
If I can have fun, that’s ok
Fancy dresses and shoes that decorate my closed heart
Are my friends to ease my loneliness

Name: Light It Up by Neffex

Reason: I love this song because it’s catchy and these guys have such awesome songs with awesome lyrics. This song keeps me pumped at the gym.

Favourite lyrics: yo give me facts not fiction then you’ll know I’ll f£&king listen cause I’m on a f?!king mission

Name: Get Away by Moccassin Creek

Reason: I love this song because it’s about cutting ties with people that have stabbed you in the back. It’s also one of my favourite songs to work out at the gym and also, I love Every Damn Day Fitness aka The Angry Bald Man on YouTube as this is his intro for every video.

Favourite lyrics: My back ain’t voicemail say it to my face, nothing more pathetic than a grown man hating

Edit: I changed the video because I can’t stand the music video because the girls do nothing but show their middle finger at the camera which shows no freaking purpose except for the dark skinned girl who is actually acting in the music video by kicking that punchbag. But anyway, the song is great!

Ugghhhh I forgot 2 songs I’ll just put them here:

Reason: I’m an introvert. Being in really big groups of people makes me so uncomfortable and I prefer being on my own. If there’s a social gathering I’ll 9 times out of 10 be in the corner on my phone.
Favourite lyric(s): “I would rather be at home all by myself not in this room with people who don’t even care about my well being”

Reason: Part of me wished I was a stereotypical teenager. Even though we’re told not to be like them when growing up, we’re expected to have an exciting and hang-out-with-friends type childhood. I’ve kinda accepted that there now isn’t only one way to have a fulfilling life.
Favourite lyric(s): “Adolescence didn’t make sense” (and it still doesn’t tbh)

Song: You Will Know My Name by Arch Enemy

Reason: I love this song because everything about the lyrics are so accurate about I have been ostracised by people I used to trust. Especially when I can relate to the very first verse of the song

Favourite lyrics:

Their judging eyes watching me
It’s all I’ve ever known
When I try to open up my heart
I am ridiculed and torn apart

Song: Soul like me - Andy Black

Reason: Basically, I know how it is to be alone and stuff and this song really gets that tbh. It kinda helps me remember that I’m not really alone I just feel that way and there are people out there who feel the same.

Favourite line: am I dead or alive is anyone by my side, living in the darkness when will I find the light?

Song: come for me - new years day

Reason: it’s a fight song aimed at people who talk about you behind your back. If this isn’t relatable Idk what is.

Favourite line: say it to my face when you talk about me

I can’t think of anything else atm but I’m sure I will add more later.

Goner ~ Twenty One Pilots.

Reasoning: Basically this song is a plea for help. It’s about feeling lost and you need somebody to help you. There’s a huge, long meaning behind this song that I won’t get into, but I can relate to this song a lot.

Favorite lyrics: “ Though I’m weak, and beaten down. I’ll slip away into the sound. The ghost of you is close to me. I’m inside out, you’re underneath. Don’t let me be gone

Surprise surprise, it’s a Twenty One Pilots song

Song: Fat Lip by Sum 41

Reason: This song never gets old and this has got me into the music I was crazy about when I was younger (don’t get me wrong, I still listen to that genre now). Such a catchy song!

Favourite lyrics: I don’t wanna waste my time to become another casualty of society, I never wanna fall in line, to become a victim of your conformity and back down

Why can you relate to these songs?

I forgot about this thread :joy: Basically, each song is has a message that I resonate with deeply. Raw by Sigrid is about being yourself, The River by AURORA is about letting your emotion out instead if holding them in, Stressed Out is about basically enjoying your childhood once it lasts before the stress of adulthood arrives…
