Atlas couldn’t stop the smile this time—not the crooked, guarded one he wore when he needed to stay in control, but a real one. Quiet. Almost stunned. Like he wasn’t used to people meaning what they said… or sticking around long enough to prove it.
“Lead the way. I will follow you into the unknown.”
That made him huff a low, surprised laugh. “Did you really just quote Frozen at me?” he murmured, eyebrows raised in mock disbelief. “You’re lucky I like you.”
Then came the kiss.
Soft. Tender. But charged. And when Baxter pulled back and walked them toward the door, Atlas didn’t hesitate. He fell into step beside him, hand still in his, and didn’t look back.
As they slipped out into the hallway, their footsteps quiet and unhurried, Atlas glanced sideways at him, a flicker of disbelief still in his eyes. Like part of him couldn’t quite believe this was happening—that someone had looked past the sharp edges, the closed-off stares, and chosen to see him anyway.
“You know,” he said softly, as they turned a corner, “this isn’t how tonight was supposed to go.”
He wasn’t bitter. If anything, he sounded almost in awe.
“I came to that party to make it through the night. That was it.” A pause. “And now I’m walking to a supply closet with a guy who kisses like he means it and quotes Disney movies with a straight face.”
Atlas looked down, shaking his head just slightly with that same half-smile still ghosting his lips. “The universe really does have a messed-up sense of humor.”
But he squeezed Baxter’s hand tighter. Not letting go. Not now. Not after that kiss.
And with that, he led them toward the print studio—toward the quiet. Toward whatever came next.

Baxter loved seeing the smile on Atlas’s face. It made him feel like he was finally doing something right. He made him feel like maybe love really did exist. Atlas glanced sideways as Baxter spoke, his lips twitching into that small, real smile again—the kind that made his sharp edges seem a little softer, like maybe he didn’t always have to be on defense.
“Oh, you poor uncultured soul,” he teased, the barest laugh in his voice. “You quoted Frozen and didn’t even know it? That’s almost worse.” He nudged Baxter lightly with his shoulder as they walked. “We’re fixing that. Someday. But not tonight.”
Tonight was already rewriting itself in ways Atlas hadn’t expected.
As Baxter threw the compliment at him—“That smile looks really good on your already sexy face”—Atlas actually blushed. Not dramatically. Not in a way that most people would catch. But the flush crept up from his collarbone into the tips of his ears, like his body wasn’t used to being looked at like that.
He shook his head, but the smile didn’t fade. “You’re dangerous when you say things like that,” he muttered, giving Baxter’s hand another squeeze, the kind that lingered. “That ‘sexy face’ stuff is how you end up stuck in a locked supply closet with me and no plans to sleep.”

“You ready?” Atlas asked, voice softer now. “No games. No noise. Just… us.”
And when the door creaked open and they stepped inside, Atlas didn’t let go of his hand—not even for a second.
Because tonight, for the first time in a long time, he didn’t want to be alone.
