I’ve never seen an adaption of Peter Pan so I didn’t know that they’re often played by the same actor, but it makes sense to me. What I remember of the story, Mr. Darling and Captain Hook are both portrayed as the ones trying to keep the children away from their fantasies (Neverland or creativity, changing traditional things, I really don’t know how to describe it so I hope you understand 
) Hook is the “Neverland version” of Mr. Darling
