This is me self-reflecting! I want to make sure I do this uni thing properly this time!
Good luck!
Thanks so much!!
An insightful post! I enjoyed reading it (okay this is starting to sound like the beginning of a reply to an online discussion board–have written too many of those, force of habit–haha).
I relate to a lot of what you were talking about, although in different ways. For instance, I am socializing with others and making friends, but I’m also a commuter (saves a ton of money) so sometimes I feel like left out or that I’m not doing enough to make connections with people.
In terms of office hours: I definitely recommend going to them even if you don’t necessarily have a question. I was kinda scared to go to office hours my first year (and tbh I don’t think I really ever did). Oftentimes I wouldn’t really have any questions, or was just too scared to approach my professors. Although, I would oftentimes stay after class and chat with them a bit about random things. For context, I go to a relatively small school.
Thanks for reading everything! It’s a good thing that you’ve self-reflected on this early on in your academic career, though! My relationship while I was at uni really distracted me and we kinda brought out some of the worst in each other, just becoming shut-ins and wasting too much money. I managed to finish the degree with a 2:1 (the second best grade), but I definitely could have done better if I had sorted out my priorities! And I’d have kept way more friendships, too. It always feels like you’re gonna be different at the time though xD
