Bay had never felt such heat before. It had been god knows how long till the whole world went to hell, and even though no one drove cars anymore. Or well there was no one left to drive them, the world was slowly during into a desert with what more valuable then the cure for this stupid illness.
Was it an illness? Bay never really wanted to know. Some called it that. Others a curse. But she said illness. It sounded much less religious that way. And she doubted the all might god would be putting them through a test right now just to have them burn everything as if he wanted to restart the world the way he wanted it.
“Look gas station.” She told her brother. How long had they been walking? The car was way out of sight by now. “Okay let’s get what we can and get back before someone decided to steal the peice of junk.” She told him. Even though she was a few years younger, she was damn good at bossing him around.
“And some water while we’re at it.” She said, voice already scratchy and rough like her lips that were cracked and bleeding in places, “Hey. Are you listening?” She asked him once their feet hit the concrete floor of the station. “Gas. I’m on water.” She told him.

Alex glanced at Bay, wiping his face with his shirt.
“ Yeah, I’m on it, “ He rolled his eyes, “ God, you’re so demanding. You know that, Bay? “ He asked her, leaning against the wall for a moment. Everything was so freaking hot. You could literally see the heat waves rising up from the ground. It had to at least be 90 degrees ( F ). And what were they doing? Walking at least a mile to find some damn gas in the dead of summer.
Alex headed to one of the back rooms, searching for a large container of some sort to carry the gas in. There on the top shelves were small gas canisters. Those would do. The problem was that he was too short. Alex swore underneath his breath. There was no way he could reach that without having to climb the shelves, which looked like they could barely support him. It was a wonder how they were holding the junk that were already on them. Alex cleared off the shelves he could reach.
He looked around for some sort of step stool or ladder to get to the canisters, but there weren’t any around. Alex rolled his eyes.
“ This is stupid. “ He muttered as he slowly started to climb the shelf. They creaked loudly and bent underneath his weight, but they hadn’t collapsed. Yet. Alex winced.
He climbed up another shelf. Before he could even react, the shelf he had just climbed up to broke underneath his weight. Alex fell, somehow landing on his feet. His heart was beating pretty fast from this near death experience.
“ Bay, “ He yelled, “ Come here. “ Alex kicked the fallen shelf out of the way.

While she had managed to find a few bottles of water and put them in a shopping cart she heard the shelf break and rolled her eyes, “You are so useless.” She mumbled before pushing the cart over to where his voice had come from.
“What is it now? Can’t climb a little shelf?” She teased looking up to where the canisters were. “They never make it easy do they. Alright, got any plan or should I try to put my head into this one again?” She was usually the one with the ideas, but she would admit they were usually unorthodox. Some death some sex other’s… well.
“Make it quick though, like I said, I don’t wanna raid happening while you’re busy breaking the store. I only have so many bullets left.” She informed, gun cold at her hip before she placed her hands on her waist,

Alex rolled his eyes. Out of all the people he could be stuck with, it was Bay? It seriously seems like the universe wants to put him through hell.
“ Whatever. I don’t have a plan so we can just get out of here “ He crossed his arms, thinking for a moment. “ But would it really be bad if somebody stole the car? It’s a piece of junk anyway. “ Alex asked. He didn’t want to walk all the way back anyways. This whole trip seemed like a waste of time. He thought it would be much easier to walk. Plus, the car made a hell of a lot of noise. It would only draw attention to themselves and zombies which was not ideal.
But then again, with the wind blowing in their faces, it made it a lot harder to hear Bay…so the car had some ups and downs.
“ Plus, the only thing people could do to the car steal the parts. Which nobody would do because they wouldn’t want to carry them in the heat. They can’t even take the car since it’s out of gas. And I have the keys. “

“Well think about it, better be in an air conditioned car then walking the rest of the way to the city.” She reasoned, looking at the items and licking her lips.
“Let’s hope you’re right.” But she knew that there were some crazy people out there that very well could we stealing whatever from their car. It had taken days to find that junk, weather they liked it or not. It was faster then walking.
“Lace your hands and give me a boost.” She said. If she calcuated right she was lighter then he was, so he would be able to get her high enough to reach and if not climb without putting to much weight or falling.
She stepped closer to him, and a sound much like something breaking caught her ear, “Did you hear something?” She whispered to her brother, looking over his shoulder, “It wasn’t just me. Lift me up come on.” She ordered wanting to get out of there even faster then before.

Alex looked in the direction of the sound. He got a strange, nervous feeling in his gut. Was somebody else in the gas station with them? And if they were, what were their intentions.
He looked at Bay, shaking his head and lacing his fingers like she told him to.
“ Hurry up. “ He said quietly. “ The quicker the better. Let’s just hope these damn shelves can hold your weight. “ Alex looked back again, but only briefly. “ Bay, I think we need to go. I think we need to go now. “

“Did you just call me fat?” She asked glaring down at him, before looking the direction he had and turning pale, “Smart plan.” She said grabbing the tank and jumping to the ground, “You’re strong right? Run with this for a few seconds.” She said, her feet already caring her through the store back to the hard dry floor of the desert. “We don’t have all day!” She called over her shoulder, looking around to see a creature hit it’s ugly head against the window of the store. “Sh*t.”
@ThatRandomCaraPerson - Sorry for the late reply, I was on vaca and just got home now!

Alex picked up the tank, heading over to Bay. He picked up his pace upon hearing a loud bang, followed by Bay loudly swearing.
“ What? What is i—“ He ran after Bay, recoiling back into the store once he saw the zombie. “ Holy f*ck! “ He yelled, grabbing his bat that he had set next to the door.
Alex set the container down, taking a deep breath as he ran out the store, taking a swing at the zombie’s head. He missed, instead hitting the window. It shattered. Alex flinched. The zombie took this moment of surprise to latch onto Alex’s arm. He yelped, yanking his arm back. He swung the bat into the zombie’s stomach, falling back as he became off balance.
@ScarletSwanHunter You’re fine! I hope you had fun.
