I know I can’t be the only person who’s had weird aches and pains while drawing. Some people get it in their wrist, some in their actual hands. But it can happen in the weirdest places.
I actually tend to get an aching pain in my shoulders if I spend too long drawing or tension pains in my neck. It can get really bad too, to the point where I can’t turn my head to look around! I’ve found that adjusting my position frequently, stretching and standing up just to move around enough helps with this though. I’m one of the lucky ones, hand pains sound a lot more difficult to deal with. Though I know there are self-massage tricks you can use to help with this!
So what kind of aches and pains do you guys get while working? And how do you sort them out?
Digitally:
Ever since I broke my stylus, I’ve been drawing with my fingers and they’ve been “cramping” a lot. Which is weird because since school has been moved online, I’ve been typing for prolonged periods of times and it only hurts when I’m trying to draw something. Same thing with gaming. It’s strange. Whenever this happens I just stop and continue with it later.
Actually drawing on paper:
Usually my neck hurts and sometimes I get headaches (for whatever reason). Same thing, I leave it and come back to it later.
I don’t know how that’s possible but when I draw digitally I get cramps in my fingertips after a while… And not just in the finger I draw with but in all of them which is weird…
Sometimes my wrist starts hurting too, but I usually fix that by just shaking my hands aggressively
Yeah, I don’t sit very ergonomic, especially not when I’m drawing. My hand sometimes go numb but that’s actually more common when I write by hand a lot. My eyes sometimes gets itchy and I sometimes get neck and back pain because I’m leaning a lot. Yep…
I usually draw digitally, and with drawing digitally there’s not really anything in particular that starts hurting. But when I’m drawing on paper with a pencil, my hand gets sore after a while, same as when I’m writing on paper.
Apparently you’re meant to draw from your shoulder/elbow…
And that you should preserve your wrist.
I mean I found this on a Tumblr post so I’m not sure it’s true, but if it is why haven’t I been told about this before T^T
