I would pick a major that will support your chara’s bio. Do they want to contribute to scientific discoveries? Work with people? Maybe just learn to make and manage money bc their parents never could?
Is your character on a scholarship or wealthy enough that it does not matter what they study they are simply receiving the education?
Alternatively go after someone’s chara and be their academic rival <3

Quick examples:
Character A wants to be an accountant and learn to handle money but alas they have no talent in it and begin flunking uni.
Character B truly is not fond of medicine due to how often they spent in the hospital as a child (for whatever reason) but wants to contribute to society in some way so they take up law.
Character C grew up with poor education and strongly believes the fostering success in society depends on how well-educated the people are so they hope to guide the new generation.
Character D has absolutely no idea what they are doing, despite being hard-working they are the first to receive higher education in their family and had to work through this process by themselves so they are undecided.
