Aileen Wuornos: did she deserve to die?

As some of you know, I have to do a monologue for a theater class. A monologue from Monster, a movie about Aileen Wuornos. I did research on her, and she had an absolutely horrible life, getting pregnant at age fourteen and all sorts of terrible things. I believe that if someone just loved her, she’d still be alive today. Now, I know what you’re thinking. I shouldn’t feel bad for a serial killer…but she was just trying to survive. So, please. Before you freak out at me, look into her life, and tell me. Of course she should’ve been jailed, but did she deserve to die? @Discussions

I mean, I don’t agree with capital punishment in pretty much any case. I don’t really know anything about her, though :eyes:

She robbed them and pawned their belongings, meaning she needed money. Maybe if she got money another way…that wouldn’t have happened.

I only agree with prisons killing people if they’re the type of people who if they get out could kill 20 or more people and be a huge danger to everyone (like Ted Bundy who literally escaped twice lol). I don’t think anyone deserves to die but for safety reasons… yeah. Like, laws can change and people can get put on parole and then go back into the public and kill so many people.

Yeah, Ted Bundy deserved it. I’m not entirely sure if Aileen showed remorse for the killings, but it’s possible she couldn’t think of any other option and did that due to her violent upbringing…Ted also knew exactly what other was doing. The people that know what they’re doing and do it for fun are the ones that deserve to die.

Well, there was something probably wrong with Ted Bundy. I mean for most serial killers it seems like there’s something very very wrong mentally with them lol.

I mean in my mind there’s no excuse for taking someone else’s life unless its self defense. (Or unless you’re in the military or something. I hate war and wish that wasn’t a thing but alas it is oof…). But there are of course things in a person’s life that could explain why they do what they do.

For me it isn’t a question of, “Do they deserve to die” but… “Would they kill again?”

That is true.

It was said that Richard Mallory, the first man she killed, assaulted her and had a record that no one knew about. I’d assume that was self defense, but I don’t know about the others…

But this is also generally a pretty bad excuse for killing

Wars are fought for a lot of bad reasons that definitely should not be used to justify the suffering they cause

Yeah ik, I said I hate wars but some people are forced into wars because their country requires it.

I mean I’d like to think that nobody (aside from serial killers) actually kill for fun.

I mean, of course!

Ok. I think she should’ve just been put in a mental hospital to get help. She was obviously very unstable, and she should’ve been gotten help, not killed…

at first when i saw this title, i was like no one deserves to die.

Okay, she was a serial killer, but i think she just needed help or someone at least who could understand what she was going through, i don’t know if she deserved to die but if someone knew what she was going through, they would have taken her somewhere

Yes. Exactly! Thank you.

I feel like she could’ve been saved. For some killers, it’s in their nature, they clearly don’t give a crap about the lives they’re taking, they may even do it for fun, and their crimes are so heinous that they don’t deserve to live. This ties into the nature vs nurture debate. I’ve heard of instances where the child grew up with a perfectly happy family, but still went on to become a serial killer because of genes or a mental illness. The terrible home life can break a person, causing them to possibly develop ASPD, or Antisocial Personality Disorder. They believe that it’s ok to do the things that their parents did to them, which is why children who have been sexually assaulted by a family member or family fried, will do the same to their peers without realizing its wrong because that’s all they knew.

This is actually true, which is why it’s important that these kids get mental help and therapy. I agree that is Aileen got some help it wouldn’t have escalated to this.

Exactly. And her girlfriend testified against her in court, betraying her, which made things worse.
