All These Fake Filters

(This topic was originally from my fave youtuber so it’s basically inspired by him)

Heyy, so this thread is about all these fake filters, photoshop etc. I wanted to talk about it because it’s been bugging me for a while.

Μost people use all this stuff or they are used on celebrities, influencers. Ok so obviously, we all admire some celebritites, some who we look up to at some point in our lives. Sometimes though, those people are not always what they seem. You see in most magazines, social media that most of those infuencers, celebrities look absolutely perfect, they have the perfect body type, face without zits or wrinkles, but is that really it? No. People edit photos or cover it with makeup, while they do have zits and wrinkles, and it’s actually normal, nothing to be ashamed of. This make people feel insecure about themselves because they look the edited photos and are like “Look how beautiful this person is, they have such an amazing body” or “Their face is so perfect” but you shouldn’t feel jealous because they are just like us, they have their flaws as well. The majority of people suffer from depression because they are insecure of their appearance. What these photos show is their fake side, something that it doesn’t exist in real life, at the end of the day, they are just like us, i am not saying they are ugly but they are edited photos and It’s only a twisted reality.

What are your opinions on this?

I think it’s down to representation.

If we saw more people with spots and freckles being represented as beautiful (and not just reserved for “ugly” people) we wouldn’t perceive them as things that need to be covered up.

That’s one of the reasons I love Jameela Jamil, the actress. She vows not to use filters/photoshop and tries to de-stigmatize normal things that happen to everyone like cellulite, acne/spots, and the like.
