Are whale sounds and ocean noises really helpful for sleep?

There’s an increasing number of people who use recordings of whale sounds or ocean noises to help them fall asleep at night, but are they really helpful? According to this article on livescience.com, our brains interpret sounds as either threats or non-threats. The whooshing sound made by waves on the ocean are non-threats, which causes them to have a calming effect. Whale sounds provide the same effect.

I don’t know. Once I tried falling asleep to the sound of rain but it only stressed me out because I knew my phone would be unlocked all night and my battery would die and I didn’t like that :joy:
But I could listen to it if I’m just trying to relax because I think it does help with that. Ocean noises are perfect, I could listen to that all day if I’m being honest and whale sounds are also great! If I didn’t care so much about my phone being on I would fall asleep to that every night.

You sound like my ex

…is that a good thing?

No.

No, really not. I tried it once and it really didn’t work.

Because I can’t fall asleep or it keeps waking me up. I already have an aquarium in my room and if that makes any sounds at night, I get really annoyed  The only thing I can deal with are the sounds of the very few cars at night or the bird in the morning, other than that I need silence

whale sounds confuse me and the sound of waves makes me feel like I’m drowning  I don’t think that makes me feel less stressed

I don’t use them, and I wouldn’t like it. I turn on a movie when I fall asleep, which works the best for me. I listen to something I know well, typically with good music to it. (Almost always a Disney movie or The Greatest Showman)

I can’t sleep when listening to music or tv.

I go to sleep with rain sounds but ocean sounds make me sleepy too. I don’t know if I can sleep with whale sounds :joy:

I’d have to pee.
