Are you learning any languages? If so, what are they?
Here are mine!
Japanese
I’m learning Japanese mainly at the moment, which I love! It’s so much fun and the pronunciation is super easy. The only struggle is Kanji. But one day I will complete my JLPT N1 and I can’t wait!
I mainly use WaniKani for help with kanji:
I love Japanese and being an intermediate has helped me to get jobs in the past, which is great!
French
I’m always learning French. All of the French people I met (excluding @SenchaStories) correct me so much when I try that I kinda get shy and don’t speak to any actual French people. That is, until you get a few drinks into me. Then I’m suddenly fluent.
Slovak
My flatmate is from Slovakia and so she teaches me odd words here and there. It’s a fun language, but it’s so hard to learn for so many different reasons! For one, the grammar But I could get over that if I just had actual learning resources! They’re really hard to find. I can’t even get this tongue twister with no vowels right. Apparently, I keep saying something like “finger…neck…through”, which doesn’t sound right to me!
Plus my accent makes me sound really cute, apparently. But I’ve met a lot of Slovak people and they say my accent is perfect when I sing this song. And I know all the words. Would you know? Music turns me Slovak
Other
I tried to learn Korean but I can’t hear the differences between some of the sounds and that really annoys me.
I’m determined to pick up a little Mandarin one day. It seems super useful.
I sometimes play around with Czech on Duolingo, but there’s this weird Czech sound that sounds like a mix between an R nd a J and I can’t do it. Slovak doesn’t have that, so Slovak pronunciation is easier for me.
My step mum is from Hungary, but I only know “czia” and “nem”.
I think, one day, I’d also like to learn Russian. But at the moment, I know too many different writing systems and it’s already confusing me. Hiragana. Katakana. Kanji. English/Romaji. Gujarati. Hindi.
What about you? Are you learning any languages? What’s it like?
